On August 21, the Afrin Liberations Forces (ALF) announced that its fighters carried out a series of attacks against the Turkish military and its proxies in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo between August 14 and 19.

In a statement, the ALF listed the attacks as follows:

On August 14, a Turkish-backed militant was killed by an ALF sniper near the town of Marea. Three other militants were wounded when the ALF targeted a post near the town of Kaljibrin with an anti-tank guided missile.

On August 15, ALF fighters targeted a Turkish military base near the town of Azaz with heavy weapons. No casualties were reported as a result of the attack.

On August 16, a Turkish-backed militant was killed and his motorcycle was destroyed in an attack by ALF fighters near the town of Jandaris in Afrin.

On August 19, ALF fighters destroyed a vehicle carrying Turkish soldiers near the town of Kubleh with an ATGM then targeted a second vehicle that attempted to evacuate the casualties. Five Turkish service members were allegedly killed in the attack.

The ALF exaggerated the results of its attacks. The Turkish Ministry of National Defense didn’t acknowledge any losses in Syria’s Aleppo on August 19.

The Kurdish military and its proxies occupied the Kurdish area of Afrin early in 2018. Since then, Kurdish guerilla groups, including the ALF, have been waging an insurgency in Afrin and in other Turkish-occupied areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
