Afghan Security Forces Foil Suicide Attack In Kabul

On October 18, the Afghanistan Ministry of Interior announced in an official statement that the Afghan Police foiled a suicide attack of the Taliban in Chahar Asyab district of Kabul province in central Afghanistan.

According to the police, the suicide attacker was arrested and a booby-trapped bicycle was sized by policemen. The ministry didn’t provide any further details about the failed attack.

So far, no group has claimed the responsibility for the failed attack attempt. Howeve, it’s very likely that the Taliban was behind it. The attack attempt came hours only after 71 people were killed in a wave of suicide attacks across Afghanistan conducted by the Taliban.

In a related development, 6 fighters of the Taliban were killed, and 6 others were injured in Afghan Air Force airstrikes on October 17, according to a report of the Afghan Tolo news TV channel. The airstrikes targeted 3 positions of the Taliban in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province in northeastern Afghanistan.

“Three safe havens of the insurgents and their weapons storage facility were destroyed in the airstrikes,” spokesman for 209 Shaheen Military Corps, Nasratullah Jamshidi told Tolo TV.

Lately the Afghan Air Force and the US Air Force intensified their areal operations against the Taliban. However, the latest wave of suicide attacks allows to suggest that these airstrikes are still not effective enough to damage the main command structure of the Taliban.
