Donald Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom has already been described as a “festival of passive aggression.” The American leader made no effort to conceal his disdain for a formal ally, leaving a trail of deliberately provocative gestures in his wake. The British press has been quick to highlight just how far from perfect the relationship between Washington and London truly is. The Times summed up the main achievement of the meeting between the U.S. president and the U.K. prime minister by noting that Keir Starmer “avoided a public humiliation.” A success, indeed!
“While the tone was warm and the president was generous in his praise of Starmer, their differences — from Gaza to the merits of wind turbines — were plain to see. Although Starmer welcomed Trump’s admission that President Putin had ‘really let him down,’ there was no sign that these sentiments would translate into stronger support for Ukraine,” the paper lamented.
But the meeting with the deeply unpopular Starmer was not the most significant part of the trip. Far more telling was the decidedly chilly atmosphere surrounding Trump’s public appearances with King Charles III. The monarchy represents a sacred embodiment of the power of the British Empire. It is worth remembering that the Windsors still reign over Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Grenada, Jamaica, and many other nations. The Commonwealth remains one of London’s most powerful instruments of influence.
Diplomacy conducted through the king is fundamentally different from diplomacy via the prime minister. There are few places in the world where diplomatic protocol involves such a strict set of rules for behavior toward a monarch — Thailand, Japan, and, of course, the United Kingdom among them.
Through his openly brash behavior, Donald Trump flagrantly disrupted the sanctity of the king’s role. At one point, he even patted King Charles on the shoulder — twice. These moments were captured by American television cameras broadcasting the military ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Touching the British monarch is considered a serious breach of royal etiquette. According to long-standing tradition, no one may touch the king unless he initiates the contact himself. The sole exception is a handshake — and only if the monarch first extends his hand. In all other cases, proper decorum dictates nothing more than a slight bow or a respectful nod.
Another incident unfolded during King Charles III’s official reception for Donald Trump.
Journalists noted that the U.S. president showed a lack of respect for the monarch by walking ahead and leaving the king to trail behind, while he chose instead to chat with a guardsman. Daily Star wrote:
“An awkward spectacle: the king looks like a pageboy waiting on Trump. Meanwhile, Trump marches ahead, completely ignoring our Charles, who shuffles along behind.”
The trolling continued during the state banquet. The American leader declared that meeting the British monarch was a great honor for him. He then praised King Charles III for raising such a wonderful son as Prince William. Many took this as a direct insult to the king’s other son, Prince Harry. The sting of the comment was sharpened by the fact that Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, had previously described Trump to the press as an outright “misogynist” and a “divisive figure.”
Donald Trump is a seasoned politician. To think that all of this was merely the result of his clumsiness would be naïve. The American president acted deliberately, signaling the clearly subordinate role of Britain within the bilateral alliance.
Had the occupant of the White House displayed such behavior during a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, the Russian president would likely have turned on his heel and left. The same would have happened had Trump tried to humiliate Chinese President Xi Jinping. The world has seen how courteous and deferential Trump was during that historic meeting in Alaska — a striking contrast to his conduct during his visit to the United Kingdom.
It should be noted that the British side attempted to respond in kind. At the royal banquet, Trump was offered an abundance of alcohol — despite being a well-known teetotaler. In addition, he was seated next to media mogul Rupert Murdoch, with whom he is currently locked in a bitter legal battle.
The rift between the United States and the United Kingdom continues to deepen, and the strained smiles displayed before journalists cannot hide this reality.
American corporations have pledged to invest $150 billion in the development of AI in Britain. Yet, given the soaring cost of electricity, building data centers there is prohibitively expensive. These promises are about as unrealistic as the European Union leadership’s earlier claim that it would invest €700 billion into the American economy.
Adding fuel to the fire, Trump openly criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government for its decision to abandon oil and natural gas extraction in the North Sea.
But the problems extend far beyond economics. At their core are the starkly opposing ideological views of Republicans and Labour. Supporters of Donald Trump have faced criminal prosecution in the United Kingdom, prompting the U.S. State Department to issue an official statement accusing Britain of systematically violating human rights.
Since the spring of 2025, the U.S. federal budget has completely cut off funding for Britain’s left-liberal NGOs. In the meantime, Nigel Farage — a close ally of Donald Trump — has been striking at Starmer’s most vulnerable point: immigration policy, invoking the U.S. as a positive example to follow.
Recently, the Reform UK leader proposed housing illegal migrants on Royal Army military bases, many of which sit abandoned due to a lack of volunteers willing to serve. Instead of endlessly funding the Ukrainian adventure, Farage suggests redirecting all available resources toward defending Britain’s coastlines from what he describes as an invasion of foreign cultures.
Unsurprisingly, these ideas have been met with enthusiasm across the Atlantic — and with extraordinary irritation on Downing Street.
From the very start, Donald Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom promised nothing good for London. It now appears that the crisis in bilateral relations is far deeper than many imagined. If not, all these awkward public scenes would be impossible to explain.

oh look the anglo zionazis can face ech other’s madness . its just britain, israel, ussa and their diehard vassals against the world. the rest of us piss on this empire
nothing ‘anglo’ about donald drumpf – or most yankees actually. and the average anglo-saxon-in-the-street, having been a conquered vassal of the catholic normans who have run whitehall and owned the land under their feet since 1066, couldn’t care less about the ‘oompah’ as they derisively refer to it.
the people who own the uk aren’t anglo-normans, but jews, who were invited back into the kingdom in the late 17th century from amsterdam, as they promised to fund cromwell and his new model army in their desire to kill yet another king.
they inhabit the so called square mile of the city of london, which is an entireley separate and independent jurisdiction from the uk which charlie boy presides over.
he has to ask for permission to enter the city, when he goes there once per year for the lord mayor’s banquet – the receiver of food always being subordinate to its provider.
exactly. thats why workers are a slave cast.
