A Finnish nuclear reactor shut down after radioactive leak

A nuclear power company Teollisuuden Voima said in a press release that on Friday, due to minor leakage one of the reactors at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in western Finland was switched off.

“​Defective fuel rods have been found at OL1 nuclear power plant unit. Electricity production at the plant unit will be stopped for the duration of the work on Monday 11 April 2016,” the press release reads.

Three fuel assemblies will be removed from the reactor and replaced with new assemblies, as said in the press release.

However, the company also claimed in its statement that the incident poses no threat to the environment.
