The Turkish-backed National Syrian Army (NSA) launched on October 24 a fresh attack on Kurdish forces in northern al-Hasakah, violating the recent Turkish agreements with Russia and the U.S.

Mustafa Baladi, a spokesman for the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said that a large number of NSA militants are attacking the villages of Assadiya, Mishrafa and Manajer.

“The SDF will exercise its right to legitimate self-defense and we are not responsible for the violation of the agreement,” the spokesman wrote on Twitter. “We urge all parties and especially the US to monitor the implementation of the cease-fire agreement that they brokered and hold violators to account.”

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) confirmed that heavy clashes between the SDF and Turkish-backed militants are taking place in northern al-Hasakah.

The NSA’s attack could jeopardize the Turkish agreement with Russia and the U.S. Both agreements say that a safe-zone should be established along Turkey’s border. However, they also say that a ceasefire should be imposed.
