Turkey’s Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on October 17 that “terrorist groups” are plotting to use chemical weapons and blame it on the Turkish military.
“Information emerged that terror groups are intending to use chemical weapons and blame it on Turkish military,” Akar said after meeting U.S. National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien, according to the Daily Sabah.
The Turkish defense minister stressed that the Turkish military does not have any chemical weapon in its inventory, saying that “everybody knows this.”
Akar’s remarks were likely a response to recent reports claiming that the Turkish military is using internationally prohibited weapons in its ongoing attack on the town of Ras al-Ayn in northeast Syria, where fighters of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are deployed.
Sources affiliated with the SDF claimed a day earlier that the Turkish military shelled Ras al-Ayn with rounds containing white phosphorus. This claim has not been verified yet.
In previous years, Ankara repeatedly accused the Damascus government of conducting chemical attacks. In those cases, Turkey was not very interested in talking about some terrorists’ involvement and ‘staged attacks’.
Well, that didn’t last long to bring out the chemical weapons farce. But at least unlike with the SAA it makes sense. An army that is suffering from defeat is far more likely to resort to controversial weaponry then an army that is winning and has no need for them.
Its a Turkish canard and you must realise that ,Barba.
The SDF and SAA both understand very well that the US is itching for an excuse to attack the SDF and SAA now that the SDF has reconciled with damascus.
SAA can’t wait that to happen so to give them some good lessons.
The SDF are not stupid, they are now only alive on the goodwill of Russia, and would kill that much more important support by such a crime.
Besides: Those mentioned chemical weapons like Sarin etc are totally ineffective militarily. It is WW1 tech, and there it only partially worked because of thrench warfare, not open plains like in the current theater in N/NE Syria. For that reason both US and Soviets pushed research so hard to find better chemical weapons.
It only a propaganda tool from the west (with likely Turkeys MIT as the coordinator).
The claim that the Turks like the US before now used white phosphor is another thing and more plausible, as Turkey is a NATO country like the US.
Sarin was created in WW2
Correct me if im wrong, but WP is “legal” to use on military equipment but not personel and as a marking munition?
Quick, enter the Turk Helmets with child actors in tow!
