2 people died and 4 others were injured when a rocket engine exploded during a test on August 8, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported.
The incident took place at a military shooting range in Nyonoksa in the northwestern Arkhangelsk region. The explosion caused a fire that also caused injures. A total of 6 servicemen and civilian engineers were injured, and two of them later died of injuries.
There was no release of radioactivity or any toxic substances. Nonetheless, the local administration in Severodvinsk about 30 kilometers east from Nyonoksa reported a brief increase in radiation levels.
