LNA Resumes Ground Operations, Captures Key Base In Tripoli’s Outskirt (Map)

The Libyan National Army (LNA) resumed its ground operations on July 19 and captured a military base in the outskirt of the country’s capital, Tripoli.

The base, known as the al-Yarmouk camp, is located less than 7km south of Tripoli’s city center. The al-Arabiya TV said that LNA units were able to capture the base following heavy clashes with forces loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA).

The Al-Yarmouk camp oversees a road linking the towns of Qasr bin Ghashir and Khallet Alforjan, which makes it one of the key military positions around Tripoli. Following the 2011 revolution the military camp was occupied by the pro-GNA Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade.

The LNA is currently working to secure the camp as the area around it is still witnessing some clashes, according to al-Arabiya. If the army success in doing so, it could reach the district of Saladin, in Tripoli’s southern part, within a few days.
