On July 17 morning, the Yemeni Air Force, an ally of the Houthis, launched several Qasef-2K suicide unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the southern Saudi airport of Jizan.

Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, a spokesman for the Houthis, said that the UAVs stuck “sensitive military targets” in the airport, claiming that the attack was successful.

“The offensive operation by the UAV force on military targets in Jizan airport comes in response to the crimes of aggression and its continuous siege on the Yemeni people,” the spokesman added.

From its side, the Saudi-led coalition announced that it had “intercepted and shot down” a Houthi UAV that was heading towards “civilian areas” in Jizan. The coalition claimed that the UAV was launched from the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

This was the second UAV attack on Jizan airport in the last 24 hours. The first attack occurred in the late hours of July 16 and coincided with two attacks on the King Khalid airbase in the Kingdom’s southern province of Asir.

The ability to launch several UAV attacks within hours from each other indicates that the Houthis’ offensive capabilities are now stronger than ever.
