At least 125 militants of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies were killed or injured in a series of Syrian airstrikes on Taftanaz airbase in the eastern part of Idlib, Syrian pro-government sources revealed.
Two Su-24MK warplanes of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) carried out the airstrikes, which targeted buildings and hangars inside the militant-held airbase. Nine vehicles which were parked inside the airbase were also destroyed.
Opposition activists confirmed that the airbase was hit with at least four airstrikes on the noon of May 23 and released several videos of the aerial attack.
A coalition of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and al-Qaeda captured Taftanaz airbase in April 2012. Back then, dozens of Syrian service members, including pilots, were killed. Some of them were executed by the FSA.
The airstrikes on the airbase were just a part of the ongoing Syrian-Russian aerial attack on militants’ positions in Idlib and its surroundings.
