The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on October 17 that their fighters repelled several new ISIS attacks on their positions north of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside.
“In the morning, the terrorist organization attempted to carry out a counter-attack on positions of our fighters south of the village of al-Susah [north of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani], using heavy weapons, however our fighters confronted and forced them to retreat,” the SDF media center said in an official press release.
Around the town of Hajin, SDF fighters captured few positions following heavy clashes with ISIS fighters. During their advance, US-backed fighters removed several IEDs, which had been planted by the terrorist group.
According to the SDF media center, 12 ISIS fighters were killed during the clashes around Hajin and north of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani. Furthermore, US-led coalition warplanes and rocket launchers struck several positions, vehicles and gatherings of the terrorist group.

Despite all the firepower of the US-led coalition, the SDF is yet to make any significant achievement on the ground. Last week even witnessed a successful counter-attack by ISIS, during which more than 36 US-backed fighters were killed and captured.
