Last week, the 4th Armoured Division redeployed most of its infantry units from southern Syria to the northern Lattakia countryside. Back then, a military source told SouthFront that heavy weapons will be transferred there during the last week of August.
Northern Lattakia is a stronghold of the al-Qaeda affiliated Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) and Chechen-led Ajnad al-Kavkaz. According to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, the armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which attacked Hmeimim airbase, were launched from there.
According to a source in the 4th Armoured Division, thee military operation in northern Syria may begin after the end of Eid al-Adha holiday. However, political developments, such as a Russia-Turkish agreement, may delay the operation.
