On August 9, Taliban fighters repelled an attack by the Afghan National Army (ANA) on their positions in the district of Chahar Darah in the northern province of Kunduz, according to the Taliban news agency Voice of Jihad. The Afghan group said that warplanes of the NATO supported the failed attack.

During the clashes in Chahar Darah, Taliban fighters killed and injured 15 personnel of the ANA. Furthermore, Voice of Jihad said that two armored vehicles were destroyed by the Afghan group.

This was the second attack of the ANA on the Taliban’s positions in Chahar Darah this week. On August 7, Taliban fighters repelled a similar attack on their positions there after killing and injuring several personnel of the ANA.

Chahar Darah is considered one of the main strongholds of the Taliban in northern Afghanistan. The Afghan group appears to be determined to maintain its presence in Kunduz, likely to secure its supply routes between the eastern and western parts of the country.
