U.S. Senators Introduce New Batch Of Anti-Russian Sanctions

On August 3, US senators introduced legislation to impose a new batch of sanctions on Russia alleging that these sanctions are a response to Moscow’s interference in US elections and its activities in Syria and Ukraine.

The legislation includes restrictions on Russian sovereign debt transactions, energy projects and uranium imports as well new sanctions on Russian political figures and businessmen.

The document would require that two-thirds of the Senate to vote in favor of any effort to leave the alliance.

“The current sanctions regime has failed to deter Russia from meddling in the upcoming 2018 midterm elections,” Republican Senator Lindsey Graham claimed, according to Reuters.

Earlier this week, Graham told media that he planned a “sanctions bill from hell” to pressure Russia.
