The Russian state-run TV network RT discovered that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have copied a Russian military promo word for word.

Eagle-eyed Facebook users spotted a video clip which Ukraine’s Joint Forces Operation command – the people in charge of a military crackdown on rebels in the east of the country – uploaded to its page on Saturday. Dedicated to Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces Day, the clip is meant to inspire recruits to join the elite troops.
“This is the first day of your new life. What was yesterday no longer matters. Nobody cares now who you used to be. Who you will become today is really important,” the voice-over says to footage of Ukrainian soldiers posing with firearms, scaling down a rope from a helicopter and doing physical exercises. “What do you know about yourself? What are you capable of?”
The pep talk goes on, presumably inspiring young men to up take arms and sign up for military service.
The only problem with the speech is that it was taken word for word from a promo video of the Russian armed forces, which was produced in 2013 and released in 2014. The sole difference is the language – the original was in Russian while the Ukrainian rip-off is in Ukrainian. Journalist Levko Stek gets the credit for being the first to spot the stunt.
But, after being caught red-handed, the Ukrainians offered a most compelling explanation for the plagiarism, saying it was part of psychological warfare against Russia.
“We call this technique ‘trolling.’ This video is meant to fight Russian propaganda on the day of our celebration,” a statement published on the same Facebook page claimed. “Our work was appreciated by the enemy and attentive journalists like Levko Stek.”
It was not immediately clear how successful the Ukrainian promo was in attracting recruits. According to an alleged letter from Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak to Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman, which was leaked last Sunday to a military news website, some 11,000 officers and soldiers serving under contract – as opposed to conscripts – have resigned from Ukraine’s armed forces over the first half of the year, due to low wages. The minister allegedly warned that 18,000 more will follow by the end of 2018, unless the ministry receives a significant financial shot in the arm.

Good summary but one correction. They have stolen even what is nailed down.
Do you remember them handing over the gold, within days of the Maiden. Flying it out of Ukraine, but, they did find the led bricks, painted gold, that were left behind. Didn’t the Dutch do well out of it all? They got their gold back, wonder if it was at the expense of Ukraine and just in time for MH17, with so much Dutch help, to spin the story against Russia.

I am sure everything was on the up and up. Just because the gold arriving in Netherlands was from a connecting flight – US then Ukraine and then Netherlands, and that the serial numbers on the bars did not match the records, the US is an honest broker that can always be trusted and so we should always believe what they say…
German commented the gold it FINALLY got from the US was not the original gold bars sent. I think we can figure out what happened.

You are correct, good observation. The change reflects exclusion of Crimea and breakaway regions and if added back in we increase by 2.5 million. Added back in, the trend has remained steady.

The Ukraine & Russia relationship remind me a lot of Ireland & Britain, Ireland was under the direct rule of Britain, but eventually withdrew from most of it, with the Irish demanding independence….
However the moment British soldiers left, the Irish clamoured to be close as possible to Britain, desperately wanting to accepted, to get Britain’s approval for anything, copying practically everything Britain did, laws, language, customs etc.
The truth was, only a tiny minority cared about independence, the rest wanted (and still want) to be British in all but name, it’s a nationwide inferiority complex that’s been in full swing for nearly a century.
What I could never understand, why when Ireland virtually got their independence from Great Britain, why they ran to the EU, to trade it all away. Do believe Ireland were played, in the 19th/20th century, by the same crowd who are still running the show, today.

“Ukrainian” is only a dialect of the Russian language with a bit of Polish.
