On May 17, the Taliban launched a new large scale attack on positions of the Afghan Army and Police around and inside the city of Farah, the capital of the western Farah province, according to the Taliban news agency Voice of Jihad.

Local officials confirmed to the Afghan TOLO TV that the Afghan Army and Police are repelling a new attack of the Taliban on Farah and revealed that Taliban fighters had sneaked into some civilian houses inside the city. According to the officials, the Taliban targeted the headquarter of the Afghan Police and the house of a member of Farah province council.

This was the second attack of the Taliban on Farah city this week. On May 15, more than 2,000 fighters of the Taliban captured several parts of Farah following a large scale attack on the city. However, the Afghan Army, backed by the NATO, managed to repel the attack allegedly killing more than 300 Taliban fighters.

Observers believe that the effective aerial support of the NATO will allow the Afghan Army and Police to repeal this new attack of the Taliban, just like the first one.
