On February 9, the Afghan Ministry of Defense announced in an official statement that warplanes of Afghan Air Force (AAF) had conducted 51 combat sorties supporting several ground operations of the Afghan Army in the provinces of Nangarhar, Logar, Paktia, Uruzgan, Zabul, Herat, Farah, Badghis, Faryab, Baghlan, Takhar, Jawzjan, Nimroz and Helmand.

AAF warplanes killed 66 fighters of the Taliban, the Haqqani network and ISIS and injured 25 others during its airstrikes, according to the official statement of the Afghan Ministry of Defense. Moreover, 12 hideouts of the radical groups were reportedly destroyed by the AAF.

The Taliban news agency Voice of Jihad claimed that Taliban fighters shot down an unspecified “helicopter gunship” over the district of Darqad in the province of Takhar on February 9. The source didn’t clarify if the helicopter was belonging to the AAF or the NATO.

The Taliban claims are likely propaganda as it was not confirmed by the Afghan Ministry of Defense or the NATO. Furthermore, the Taliban has falsely claimed that its fighters shot down aircraft on many occasions.
