On January 10, an ammo depot of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) located near the town of Slinfah in northern Lattakia exploded, according to pro-government sources. Three SAA soldiers were reportedly killed and five others were injured in the incident.
The Free Syrian Army (FSA) group, Abu Amara Privacy for Special Tasks, claimed that it was behind the explosion in the Slinfah ammo depot. However, Abu Amara is well-known for being nothing more than a fictional group that’s used for propaganda, as the group has never released any evidence of its cells conducting any attacks against the SAA.
Some Syrian opposition activists claimed that the explosion in the ammo depot was a result of a drone attack, similar to the one conducted against Russia’s Hmeimim airbase and Tartus naval base on January 6. While this is possible, the activists have not provided any evidence to back their claims.
Other opposition activists went on and claimed that the Slinfah ammo depot was destroyed by an Israel airstrike. These claims were likely only based on the fact that Israel attacked several ammo depots of the SAA on January 9.
From its side, the pro-government sources said that the explosion was a result of a “technical failure”.
Could most likely be improper storage or mishandling. In the Army there is an MOS which specialty is ammunition handling — talk about people who are meticulous! Storage of large quantities of munitions is always a dangerous thing unless the rules for it are strictly observed.
Well hate to burst your bubble but it was a Jihadi terrorist drone strike that had set the explosion off.
I was at Bien Hoa Vietnam, in 1972, when a non-US ordinance worker ran a forklift into a rack of fused 500 lb bombs. The initial blast was amazing, the secondaries were inspiring, the rain of kick outs was awesome, and the Dude’s body was not recovered. Ordinance handlers, to this day, use this as an example of how not to do it.
Well, war is not over, and you do not have to be so confidence about the moderated terrorists.
What you meant to say was they were “modified” terrorists as they are under control of Turkey/NATO and not the GCC.
