Donbass, I’m here

Donbass, I'm here

Original written by Yevdokia “Dunya” Sheremetyeva on her littlehirosima blog; translated from Russian by J.Hawk

Day three on the Donbass.
Day three, more like year three.Donbass…
Did I now about you back then? A long time ago?
What were you for me then?
A spot on the map? A conversation on a Crimean beach?
Donbass, I'm here
Now you are eternity for me.
A night-time road.
With a low-hanging smoke.

Donbass, I'm here

Customs and long lines.
And the usual question: “Where to and why?”

Donbass, I'm here

Burned out tanks, shattered roofs.
Childrens’ laughter and ice-cream which we brought.
Yesterday, for the little kids.

Donbass, I'm here
Corridors full of forgotten elderly.
Wheelchairs.
Endless, maddening rhythm.
Packages, loading, and travel.
Assisting those with pleading eyes.
I’ll soon report, soon write about everyting.
Now I’m heading for Gorlovka, which I never visited.
I hope they won’t shoot.
Thanks to all of you.
For your support, your words and deeds.
I Love You.

Donbass, I'm here
