Photos: Syrian Troops In Less Than 3km From Strategic ISIS-held Town Of Sukhna

Syrian government forecs, led by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) Republican Guard and pro-government tribal forces have reached the vicinity of the strategic ISIS-held town of Sukhna in the province of Homs. Currently government forces are clashing with ISIS terrorists southwest of the town. The SAA controls a number of important high points, including Rajm Sabboun, Mount Qulaylat, Um Khasm hills and a part of Jabal Tuntur, that allows to predict that they will be able to develop advance further in coming days.

The hill to the left of Sukhnah in the photos is likely to be Jabal Tuntur. The south western end of the hill is under 2 kms from Sukhnah. The north eastern end is right over the town. It completely dominates the town. I suspect the SAA aren’t on the hill as yet (contrary to what the first paragraph states) but who knows?

A few days ago, SAA was, according to this site, 2 kms from the town. Now three.

Has the SAA been withdrawn?

Wahid Algiers

Soukhna Gas fields and Soukhna town were mixed up.

There was also report that SAA was 800 m from the town. Looks like al the information in articles are wrong

If the photo is accurate they are getting very close! The SAA has the momentum at the moment. A withdrawal is possible but unlikely. Errors in reporting are more likely.

have you heard that joke about that dutchman in Lvov ..? xD

Pray, tell

They are talking about one front where as the SAA are approaching it from other flanking fronts which sounds conflicting if you don’t realize each are a different reproaches on the al-Sukhna. The objective is to outflank it and surround it so as to not give it any respite from attack as a frontal assault would do.

Usually, when one reports a certain distance, one takes the shortest distance.

This is only true if you are talking of one Flank as there are East ,West and South flanks the plan is to flank from multiple flanks with good overwatch positions and allow Artillery solid positions to attack from and this is to allow them to pick off ISIS piecemeal.

very nice :))) keep surrounding, flanking, and getting closer :))
