ISIS claimed that its fighters managed to take control of Al-Tanak district in the western part of Mosul.

The ISIS-linked News Agency Amaq claimed that ISIS fighters are currently storming Al-Yarmouk district to east of Al-Tanak district. Al-Tanak district is more than 3 km away from the Old Mosul area, where ISIS fighters are besieged.

None of the Iraqi sources confirmed ISIS claims, but local sources confirmed that ISIS militants launched an attack on civilians in the districts of Al-Tanak, Rajm al-Hadid and Souk al-Ma’ash.

At least 9 ISIS fighters, according to the Mosul Eye agency, carried out an attack in which they killed civilians and burned buildings and cars.

According to the Mosul Eye info, it seems that a small number of ISIS fighters may have launched an attack to spread panic and fear among civilians and Iraqi Security Forces in the hope of pushing them to withdraw from certain points.

It is believed that these fighters either had gone out among civilians who had been evacuated by Iraqi Army or had used tunnels to infiltrate the liberated areas in Mosul.
