Only in the west of the country more than 400 soldiers of the Ukrainian Army have deserted.
According to the official website of the military attorney department of the western region of Ukraine, more than 400 ‘motivated’ soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces escaped from Ukrainian army units only in the west of the country.
The agencies of the military attorney department appealed to citizens: “In order to determine external circumstances and valid reasons of leaving of army units and duty areas we call on citizens to help to ascertain the location of these individuals. With arising questions or any information that will help in determination of these circumstances you can apply to military prosecutor’s offices of garrisons of the western region of Ukraine, using phone numbers in the table. There is a list of servicemen, in respect of which military prosecutor’s offices of garrisons of the western region of Ukraine are performing a pre-trial investigation into the unauthorized leaving of army units and duty areas (data as of 11.07.2016).”
The following information applies only to one region of Ukraine. In general, the situation is much more serious.
Good! These people should be protected from retaliation or prosecution.
Generally, when you have mass desertion in a military:
It means a civil war is not far behind…
^.^
Aren’t they technically in a civil war already?
Kindof, yeah. But the issues right now have been simmering since the fall of the USSR.
Mass conscript armies are also notorious for mass desertions in actual war conditions.
Problem with corruption is that aid money never reaches the lower end of the military i.e the foot soldiers . They are living in dangerous conditions and don’t have ample supplies or even good commanders(considering the current situation in Debalstvo). What other choices they have from either taking off somewhere safe or just crossing the lines and move to a “better” place.
May be it is not a matter of money but mind?! Not every one is a warmonger.
valid point, specially when one has to “war” with own people.
Poroshenko left his military sitting surrounded in a cauldron at Debalseve. That was classic example of politician making a politically driven military decision, clinging to hazardous territory of no tactical value, to try and look strong for his sponsors. For the average press-ganged conscript in Ukrainian army that cannot be very inspiring example of leadership worthy to put your life in hands of.
Russian Armed Forces are prone to desertions too https://themoscowtimes.com/articles/war-in-ukraine-ruined-russian-military-reform-op-ed-48110
It says “If this story is true…..”. Did you miss that?
” even official data indicates that the Maikop Garrison Court convicted 62 soldiers in the first half of 2015 on charges of leaving their units without permission”. Did you miss this?
Comprehension skills?-Missing. It says that they don’t want to fight with Ukrainians, they would rather desert.
OK, so you are a special case, I’ll forgive you. It must be hard for you to recover from a lobotomy.
Ha ha ha.Thank you for the compliment. For your info: one does not recover from lobotomy. IQ? – polish. What else can I say?

I have manners. So after you, ladies before gentlemen ?
Why do you Polish guys always HAVE to be anti-Russian? Don’t you think it’s time to put this useless tribal vendetta to rest, at this point? Can’t you see that Russia poses NO threat to Poland or Poles AT ALL today; and that the REAL evil in today’s world is the psycho Western elites having aligned themselves with Islamists?
“Can’t you see that Russia poses NO threat to Poland” I agree with this comment. “that the REAL evil in today’s world is the psycho Western elites having aligned themselves with Islamists?” I also concur with this statement, and its inarguable that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is a strong leader and a role model for the rest of the leaders around the world. But that does not mean that I agree with all of his policies. The article that I posted was written in a Russian owned newspaper by a Russian journalist about problems in the Russian Armed Forces. And just because I have a Polish name does that automatically make me Polish? Next thing you’ll be saying is that Russian Aerospace Forces only bomb hospitals in Aleppo! So your kind of comparison is inappropriate in both form and substance.
A good day to you Sir.
I would ask you in turn: Why does acknowledging the problems and mistakes of Russia in past and present have to be attributed to being anti-Russian? Facing facts objectively doesn’t make a person anti-anything. Being unable to see the flaws of the groups you prefer is very dangerous: that kind of attitude, once widespread enough among a given group, degrades it’s quality, as problems are all glossed over as ‘enemy propaganda’, rather than addressed and fixed. Russia’s armed forces inherited a few very serious defects, which any credible student of Russian military history is aware. That is certainly not unique to them, and they have made a sincere and somewhat successful effort to fix them, but they aren’t just going to vanish overnight, after a couple centuries of institutionalisation.
Desert or die…
Easy choice really….
What language is that, Dwarvish?
I can hardly wait for the list that comes out on those Crimean soldiers and support people who switched sides during the fiasco called Maidan – 15,000 said ” Adios Ukraine” Buenos Diaz Russia.
