Photos: Iranian-backed Afghani Militia Operates in Southern Aleppo

The Iranian Fars News Agency released a series of photos from the southern countryside of Aleppo city. The photos show the Liwa Fatemiyoun militia group, operating 152 mm towed artillery guns during the battle with Jaish al-Fatah militants.

Liwa Fatemiyoun is an Afghani Shia milita group funded, trained, and equipped by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. Reports say the group is embeded with Iranian military advisers. However, Liwa Fatemiyoun’s leadership denies these.

Iranian-backed militias play an important role, supporting the Syrian government in the ongoing conflict with Western-backed militants. Tehran sees such a kind of militia groups as a useful tool of influence in Syria.
