Iraqi security forces (ISF) liberated the strategic Kurdish village of Gogjali in the eastern outskirts of Mosul (a strategic city controlled by ISIS) on November 1. Then, the ISF seized the nearby state-tv building.

By doing this, the ISF has entered the ISIS-controlled city for the first time since it was occupied by ISIS in 2014.

The operation to liberate Mosul from ISIS began on October 17, 2016. Over 30,000 Iraqi troops and 4,000 Kurdish Pesherga fighters, supported by the US-led coalition, are taking part in it.
