In the Sumy direction, Russian assault units of the “North” grouping continue to press Ukrainian defenses, advancing in the areas of Khoten, Kiyanitsa, Tolstodubovo and Stepok. In the Kharkiv direction, the main efforts of Russian units are concentrated on destroying the Ukrainian grouping being assembled to break the encirclement in the northeast of the region; Russian aviation and drones struck concentrations in the areas of Veliky Burluk, Mikhailovka, Podsredneye and others. In the Krasny Liman direction, Russian units are holding positions in the southern part of Krasny Liman, repelling attempts by Ukrainian groups to infiltrate through the pocket from Stavki. In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops are methodically clearing both banks of the Oskol, striking deployment points and logistics of Ukrainian units near Kupyansk-Uzlovoy. In the Zaporozhye direction, Russian assault troops advanced west of Zorevka and northwest of Zarnitsa, capturing a number of strong points and destroying equipment and communications of Ukrainian units. Meanwhile, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the left-wing party La France Insoumise, stated that the threat of a Russian attack on Europe appears more serious because of Ukraine’s long-range strikes, and called for diplomacy and negotiations.
Sumy direction
Assault units of the “North” grouping continue to press Ukrainian defences in the Sumy region. The Ukrainian side is sitting on the defensive and transferring reinforcements. The Ukrainian command has transferred security, repair and other rear units from Chernihiv region to Sumy region in order to strengthen the defence of Sumy. In the Chernihiv direction the Ukrainian side is reinforcing its defence with engineering structures and minefields.
In Sumy district there is progress by Russian units near Khoten and Kiyanitsa. Small-arms fighting is under way near Maryino and Malaya Rybitsa.
In Shostka district Russian assault troops advanced near Tolstodubovo.
In Krasnopolye district the advance of Russian assault groups near Stepok continues.
Kharkiv direction
In the Liptsy direction Russian units continue to expand their zone of control near the Russian border. The Ukrainian side is accumulating reserves for counterattacks.
In the Volchansk direction Russian units continue to tighten the ring around the Ukrainian grouping. The Ukrainian side still disputes the scale of the encirclement and speaks of local advances rather than a cauldron. According to information from the Russian Ministry of Defence, the ring was closed after the capture of Vasilevka, Blagodatnoye, Dolzhanka and other villages; inside remain units of the 159th and 22nd Mechanized Brigades of the Ukrainian forces and border guards. The area is estimated at between 250 and 400 square kilometres.
In the Burluk direction there are reports of the division of the encircled grouping into small pockets followed by strikes, as well as of attempts to penetrate north of Bolshoy Burluk. The nearest objective is the settlement of Prikolotnoye; its capture will open the way for Russian units to Bolshoy Burluk.
Krasny Liman direction
Operation “Vivaldi,” announced by the commander of the 3rd Army Corps of the Ukrainian forces, Biletsky, is exclusively a media project whose purpose is to justify to Western partners the huge infusions of equipment and drones transferred to Ukrainian units. The Ukrainian command already acknowledges the actual failure of the counteroffensive, as the Ukrainian side failed to completely cut off the Shandrygolovo salient and push Russian positions out of Krasny Liman.
From the Oskol side the Ukrainian side regularly sends small groups toward Redkodub and Novoye for further movement south toward Zolotaya Dolina. In Shandrygolovo a grey zone remains. From here Ukrainian units, using trails and the beds of dried-up ponds, try to drive wedges between Stavki and Zelenaya Dolina in order to cut off forward Russian units. All such attempts are nullified.
Russian assault units are attacking Ukrainian forces in the areas of Drobyshevo and Prishib. From here Ukrainian units constantly attempt to transfer infantry for passage toward Stavki.
Inside the city itself strikes are being delivered against groups of Ukrainian units in the area of Slabozhdanskaya and Ostrovskaya streets. On the approaches to Zolotoy Kolodez Russian assault groups have already entered the village and are operating in the centre. The Ukrainian side is intensively counterattacking, understanding the significance of this settlement. If Zolotoy Kolodez is taken, the entire defensive line protecting Kramatorsk from the south in the area of Gruzskaya collapses. Further on, the road opens to the Dobropolye–Kramatorsk highway and movement toward Andreyevka. Ukrainian reserves transferred here earlier, including the 46th Airmobile Brigade from the Gulyaypole direction, have been heavily depleted.
In the area of Novogrigorovka and Raiskoye fierce fighting is under way in the northern parts of these settlements. The Ukrainian side is beginning to give way. In Verolyubovka the eastern part is already under the control of Russian units; the railway line from Chasov Yar to Kramatorsk has also partially come under control. After the complete capturing of Verolyubovka, movement toward Belokuzminovka along the river valley is planned.
Kupyansk direction
On the northern sector of the front, fighting for Kupyansk continues. Contrary to claims that everything is lost, Russian troops are methodically clearing both banks of the Oskol River. The territory as far as Peski beach has been cleared. In the area of the forest tracts near Kupyansk-Uzlovoy, Russian units are striking Ukrainian deployment points and logistics routes.
From Radkovka to Yubileynaya Street in Kupyansk, Ukrainian groups are still attempting local counterattacks, but the majority of the personnel is being destroyed by Russian drone operators. In the southern part of the front near Boguslavka, Russian fighters are battling for a number of Ukrainian fortifications; the Ukrainian side is still trying to counterattack and regain lost positions. The entire sector from Borovaya to Borovskaya Andreyevka and northward to the southern borders of Zagryzovo is in the grey zone.
Zaporozhye direction
In the northern sector Russian assault troops continued to advance west of Zorevka. Artillery crews and FPV-drone operators destroyed several pieces of Ukrainian equipment in the areas of Ivanovka, Pokrovskoye and Tersyanka.
Northwest of Zarnitsa Russian units continued to drive a wedge into Ukrainian defences, capturing successive strongpoints.
West of Lesnoye Russian units continued to take fortified Ukrainian strongpoints, cutting off the approaches of their groups. As a result of offensive actions and fire strikes, 12 Ukrainian servicemen were destroyed.
West of Rovnoye and Kopani assault troops continued to take Ukrainian strongpoints. Three drone control points, 24 NSU antennas and five Starlink satellite communication stations were destroyed. They also advanced west of Chervona Krynytsia and Novosyolovka.
Conclusion
In the Sumy and Kharkiv directions this is expressed in the methodical pressing of defences and the tightening of the ring around individual nodes of resistance. In the Krasny Liman direction — in the holding of key positions and the prevention of infiltration attempts. In the Kupyansk and Zaporozhye directions — in the consistent clearing of river banks and strongpoints, which creates the preconditions for further advance. A common feature is the high role of drones and artillery, as well as the difficulty of crossing open spaces, which slows the pace but does not change the overall trend. At the same time the Ukrainian side continues to transfer reserves and counterattack, yet fails to achieve a turning point.
On the political front, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the left-wing party La France Insoumise and presidential candidate, stated that the threat of a Russian attack on Europe appears much more serious because of Ukraine’s long-range strikes. “It seems that no one is concerned about why the threat from Russia today appears more serious than some time ago. Why? Perhaps we should ask ourselves whether this is connected with Ukraine’s long-range strikes against Russia,” he believes. Mélenchon also added that Kyiv and the EU have only one way to avoid further escalation: “We believe that the risk is growing, but there is still no other way out except diplomacy and negotiations.”
