On the night of September 21, 2026, Russian forces carried out drone strikes against logistics centers, warehouses, and port and energy infrastructure across Ukraine. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, targets were hit in the Kyiv, Odesa and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Kyiv region. The BDU Logistic center in the village of Shchaslyve was hit. Its warehouses were used to store and distribute military supplies. A gas distribution station in Boiarka that supplies gas to Ukrainian defense-industry facilities was also struck.
Fires were reported at an oil depot in Borodianka, where fuel tanks were hit. Local authorities also reported strikes on a sawmill near Fastiv, a vehicle service station near Bucha, and warehouses in Brovary.
Odesa region. A dry-cargo vessel that had delivered supplies for the Ukrainian Armed Forces was hit in the port of Odesa. Another dry-cargo vessel was struck while at sea. In the port of Izmail, facilities used to unload and store military cargo were hit. A fire was reported at warehouses belonging to the Silpo supermarket chain in Odesa.
Zaporizhzhia region. The Intrade shopping center was hit. A series of strikes with guided aerial bombs was reported in Kamyshevakha and Orikhiv.
Russian forces also struck targets in the Sumy, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions. In the Zhytomyr region, a Geran drone struck a gas station near Zviahel along the M06 highway.
According to Bloomberg, Russia has reduced its use of ballistic missiles since August while increasing the number of jet-powered drones it deploys. This may indicate a deliberate buildup of precision-strike weapons for mass use in winter, when Ukraine’s energy infrastructure is particularly vulnerable. This week, European leaders are expected to press Washington for additional interceptor missiles for Patriot air-defense systems. However, even the transfer of hundreds of interceptors would not guarantee the protection of key energy facilities, as many of the Iskander-M, Tsirkon and Geran-4/5 weapons being used can penetrate air-defense systems.
Ukraine’s president has said that Kyiv is prepared to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries if Moscow stops striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, critical infrastructure and food exports. An energy truce is expected to be the main topic of the upcoming meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump in New York.
