A series of videos released in the last two weeks shows Russian “Geran-4 Seeker” jet-powered one-way attack drones striking Ukrainian radar and electronic warfare systems in several areas of southern and eastern Ukraine.
The first video was released on September 4. It shows the destruction of a Ukrainian 35D6 radar near the settlement of Chervonopolye in the Mykolaiv region. The video also shows a Rada counter-battery radar near Sloviansk being struck, although that attack was carried out with a Gerbera-type one-way attack drone.
On September 14, another video showing a pair of 35D6 radars being struck, one near the settlement of Kaluga in the Mykolaiv region and another at an unspecified location in the Odessa region, was released.
Video footage showing further strikes against two radar systems and an unidentified electronic warfare station in the settlement of Dalnyk in Odessa and the settlement of Shyroke in the Kharkiv region was released on September 18.
On September 19, a video showing additional strikes against a 35D6 radar near the settlement of Kashpurovka and a P-18 radar near the settlement of Korobochkino, both in Kharkiv, was released. The footage also shows a Ukrainian launch command post at Voznesensk airfield in Mykolaiv being struck.
The 35D6 belongs to the Soviet-era ST-68 family of three-dimensional surveillance radars and is designed to detect and track aircraft and other airborne targets, including at low altitude, while operating under electronic interference. It can feed target information to air-defense systems and track multiple targets simultaneously.
The P-18 is an older but still widely used VHF-band surveillance radar. Its relatively low-frequency operation also gives the system value in detecting targets that may be more difficult for higher-frequency radars to see.
The Geran-4 Seeker is reported to be capable of speeds exceeding 500 kilometers per hour and a range of more than 850 kilometers. It is also equipped with an artificial intelligence-powered optical targeting system. The drone carries a 50-kilogram warhead.
Recent Western media reports have described the Geran-4 Seeker jet-powered one-way attack drone as highly effective. The latest strikes underscore how the Russian military is exploiting Ukraine’s vulnerability to the new drone to further degrade the country’s air defense network.
