The Russian military continues to hunt down Ukrainian units responsible for launching fixed-wing one-way attack drones, with much success.
On September 7, two videos showing strikes against such units were released by the Russian Ministry of Defense and other military sources.
The first video shows five strikes on trucks used by Kyiv forces to transport drones along with the related equipment and fuel in the regions of Odessa and Dnipropetrovsk. It is unclear from the footage how many of these trucks were destroyed, but the number is likely around two dozen.
The second video shows a strike on a unit of Kyiv forces preparing to launch around a dozen drones. The strike destroyed all the drones, along with two launch pads and two vehicles—a pickup and a van—which were used to transport the equipment.
All the strikes were carried out using “Geran-4 Seeker” jet-powered one-way attack drones, which can reach speeds exceeding 500 kilometers per hour, making interception extremely difficult. The drone, which is reported to have a range of over 850 kilometers, is equipped with an artificial intelligence-powered optical targeting system.
Ukraine escalated drone attacks against Russian territories over the past year, relying mainly on small, highly mobile units that use trucks, pickups and vans with no military markings.
While this tactic worked for the Ukrainians at first, recent months saw a notable increase in videos showing Russian strikes on such units, which suggests that Russian intelligence has developed a method to locate them despite the vast size of the operational theater.
