Iran Suppresses U.S. Air Defenses In Overnight Attack (Videos)

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it has destroyed multiple radar and communications facilities belonging to the United States in the region, while the Islamic Republic’s Army reported drone strikes on three U.S. bases in Kuwait, in what both describe as ongoing retaliation for American violations.

The announcements came in a series of statements issued early on July 21, covering the latest phases of the IRGC’s “Operation Nasr-2” and the Army’s “Operation Sa’eqeh.

In its first statement, the IRGC said the second phase of wave 24 of Operation Nasr-2 targeted infrastructure supporting U.S. air defense operations in Kuwait, describing the strike as an effort to clear the way for larger air and missile operations against American targets in the region.

According to the statement, missiles and drones struck and destroyed a long-range radar site, a communications center, satellite reception systems and a missile defense radar belonging to what it called the “child-killing” U.S. military in Kuwait. It also said an MQ-9 Reaper drone hangar was hit at Ali al-Salem Air Base, damaging or destroying several drones.

Addressing the Iranian public, the Guards vowed that its operations against American forces across the region would continue.

In a second statement, the IRGC said it struck U.S. air defense assets at Ahmad al-Jaber Airbase in Kuwait, destroying an early warning radar, a missile defense radar, an FPS-117 radar, a Patriot air defense system and a satellite communications system supporting air defense operations.

The Corps described the strikes as a “radar suppression operation” and warned that further, heavier waves of drone and missile attacks would follow.

In a further statement, the IRGC said it had destroyed a missile-defense radar system at a U.S. base in Jordan and an F-15 fighter jet inside its shelter, declaring that the region was “no place for the American aggressors” and demanding that the U.S. leave to avoid further casualties.

Separately, the Army’s public relations office said the 19th phase of Operation Sa’eqeh used loitering attack drones against three U.S. military bases in Kuwait, hitting administrative buildings and direction-finding antennas at Camp Arifjan, a helicopter parking area at al-Udairi Camp, and a troop accommodation building at Ahmad al-Jaber Airbase.

Blasts and interceptions were reported in both Jordan and Kuwait overnight. However, the extent of damage caused by Iranian strikes remains unclear.

Overnight, U.S. strikes hit nine cities and coastal areas across southern and southeastern Iran — Bandar Abbas, Bandar Lengeh, Bushehr, Chabahar, Qeshm Island, Sirik, Shiraz, and Konarak — along with the western city of Abdanan, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.

In Abdanan, Governor Behzad Nourmohammadi said facilities in the Dinar Kuh area were targeted, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

Separately, air defense systems were heard operating near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, while explosions rattled Sirik and Bandar Abbas, state TV and Fars News said. Iran also claimed it intercepted an American cruise missile over South Rudbar in the south, according to the Tasnim news agency, and Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations separately demanded condemnation of a U.S. strike on the Darkhovin nuclear power plant in the southwest.

In a statement, U.S. Central Command said the overnight strikes hit military command centers, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems to “degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking commercial vessels flowing through the Strait of Hormuz.”

The United States and Iran have been exchanging strikes since July 7 in a limited confrontation that has effectively ended the memorandum of understanding signed last month to halt the war.

Recent developments suggest further escalation is likely. President Donald Trump has vowed to kill “many times” the number of Iranians for every American soldier killed, and Israel is reported to be preparing to join the fighting against the Islamic Republic.
