Fresh Russian Strikes Set Ukrainian Ports Ablaze (Videos)

Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on July 15 that overnight strikes with long-range, air-launched precision weapons and drones hit Ukrainian military logistics and drone-production infrastructure at three Black Sea ports.

In its statement, the ministry said the strikes hit the port of Odesa, targeting facilities belonging to the Odesa Sea Commercial Port State Enterprise.

According to the ministry, the strikes targeted “facilities of the port infrastructure used for the unloading of petroleum, oil, and lubricants, and tanks of the POL (petroleum, oil, and lubricants) intended to support the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine).”

The ministry further claimed that “two workshops for the production and assembly of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including the assembly unit of the UJ-22 medium-range UAV” at UKRJET company were damaged in the strikes on the Odesa port.

At Chornomorsk port, also located in the Odesa region, the ministry stated that Russian forces struck “a container ship and a dry cargo ship delivering supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” identifying the target as the Chornomorsk Sea Commercial Port State Enterprise.

A third strike was reported at the port of Dnipro-Buzkyi in Mykolaiv region, where the ministry said “two dry ships delivering cargo to the AFU were hit during unloading.”

The Russian MoD characterized the overnight operation as a continuation of “group strikes with long-range air-based high-precision weapons and drones.”

Governor of Odesa region Oleh Kiper confirmed that a “massive” drone and missile strike hit ports there for the fifth consecutive day.

The recent strikes come as a direct answer to Ukraine’s intensifying operations against Crimea and its campaign targeting shipping in the Black Sea. For Kyiv, the strategy appears to have produced the opposite of its intended effect. Ukrainian ports now find themselves effectively sealed off by Russian strikes.
