On the night of June 3, monitoring reports recorded 189 UAVs over Ukraine and 394 over Russia. The strikes on both sides damaged military depots, port and energy infrastructure, industrial facilities, and transport assets. On the eve of the opening of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Ukraine attacked targets in St. Petersburg and struck a scheduled Moscow–Simferopol passenger bus in the Donetsk People’s Republic, killing seven people.
Strikes on Ukraine
Russian forces carried out strikes on facilities in seven Ukrainian regions. Several attacks employed tactical missiles and kamikaze UAVs.
Dnipropetrovsk Region: A combined strike hit logistics hubs. An ATB supermarket chain warehouse complex was struck by an Iskander tactical missile, while a Nova Poshta logistics center was hit by a Geran-2 kamikaze UAV. Additionally, the Nikopolska solar power plant (near the settlement of Starozavodske) was damaged by a Geran UAV.
Chernihiv Region: According to Western monitoring channels, Russian Kh-101 cruise missiles struck a warehouse complex in the village of Ladynka, where, it is believed, Patriot PAC-2/3 interceptors and other munitions were stored. Observers noted the simultaneous disappearance of approximately 14 Kh-101 missiles from radar over the region, which may indicate a hit on a major facility.
Strikes on Russian Territory
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported 354 fixed-wing UAVs shot down overnight and another 158 during the day, for a total of 512 over 24 hours. Drones were recorded over a broad front of Russian regions: Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Leningrad, Novgorod, Oryol, Pskov, Rostov, Smolensk, Tver, Tula, and Moscow regions, as well as Krasnodar Krai, the Republic of Crimea, and the Azov Sea.
The main Ukrainian strike was timed to coincide with the opening of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. According to reports, FP-1 and An-196 ‘Liutyi’ kamikaze drones struck the Petersburg Oil Terminal.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed damage to the marine terminal in St. Petersburg and to facilities in the port of Kronstadt. A Project 23380 corvette, Boyky, was recorded damaged after a drone struck its superstructure, and port infrastructure also sustained damage.
The strike on the Progress defense plant (Michurinsk, Tambov Region), where a fire was confirmed, was also cited.
According to experts studying the incident and available reports, some drones approached via the Baltic states from the Gulf of Finland. Launches were noted from trucks, as well as the possibility of launches from fishing vessels in the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland. Estonian authorities declared an “air threat” in several counties in connection with UAV movements toward Leningrad Region.
In the early morning of June 3, near the city of Yenakiyevo in the Donetsk People’s Republic, a Ukrainian strike drone attacked a scheduled Moscow–Simferopol passenger bus. There were 46 people on board.
Seven civilians were killed, and 11 others sustained injuries of varying severity. The passenger cabin and driver’s cab were completely burned out, and the body melted from the fire. Ten injured, including one child, were hospitalized in moderate condition. Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on terrorism charges.
This is the fifth bus strike in these territories within the past two weeks, which, according to observers, indicates a systematic nature to such attacks.
