Hezbollah FPV Drone Swarm Decimates Israeli Border Post (Videos)

Hezbollah’s drone units have attacked a fortified border post of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) using several fiber optic-guided first-person view (FPV) suicide quadcopters at the same time, in the first such complex operation.

The attack on al-Abad post, located across the southern Lebanese town of Houla, took place on May 12. At the time a large fire was reported at the post.

Video footage released by Hezbollah confirmed that FPV quadcopters hit a pickup truck, two communication trucks, and a Merkava Mk 2M main battle tank at the post. All of these vehicles were seriously damaged or completely destroyed. The pickup was manned when it was struck, which suggests that there were casualties.

Hezbollah’s drone units have inflicted some serious losses on the IDF since the start of the United States-brokered ceasefire in Lebanon last month.

In addition to the attack on al-Abad post, the group carried out dozens of separate strikes with FPV quadcopters in recent days.

The videos released by Hezbollah in recent days only shows some 13 strikes, which targeted three Merkava Mk 2M tanks, a Namer armored personnel carrier, three Humvee vehicles — one of which equipped with communication equipment —, a Land Rover Wolf — also equipped with communication equipment —, an armored D9 bulldozer.

Three more videos show separate strikes with FPV quadcopters that targeted a van carrying Israeli troops and lone soldiers.

These drones have proven to be a gamechanger. In addition to being cost-effective, Hezbollah appears to be manufacturing these drones with ease.

The latest attack on al-Abad post shows that the group is not just increasing the production of these drones, but also employing them in more complex operations.

The IDF is currently developing a system to counter Hezbollah’s fiber-optic cable-guided FPV suicide quadcopters. Israeli military officials have acknowledged, however, that such a system will be ready in the short term, nor will it provide a hermetic solution to the threat.
