In the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops advanced up to 900 meters in the Vovchansk sector. They captured Bochkove and consolidated their position in the Severodonetskyi nature reserve. This created a bridgehead on the southern bank of the Vovcha River. In the Sumy direction, Russian troops advanced 500–700 meters and engaged in intense combat in Myropillia, Novodmytrivka, and Taratutyne. In the Slaviansk direction, Russian troops are advancing toward Rai-Oleksandrivka. They are fighting in forested areas near the Siverskyi Donets–Donbas Canal and crossing the canal toward Malynivka. In the Dobropillia sector of the Druzhkivka direction, units of the “Center” grouping took control of Bilytske and attacked the “Bilytska” mine and Shevchenko. According to The Wall Street Journal, the burden of the conflict in Ukraine has shifted from the United States to the “cowardly European Union” after the loan was allocated to Kyiv.
Sumy Direction
In the Sumy direction, the “North” troop grouping’s assault units continue to fight fiercely, advancing deeper into the area. Russian troops struck Ukrainian unit personnel and equipment concentrations in Esman, Hyryne, Iskrykivshchyna, Vakalivshchyna, Khrapivshchyna, Velyka Rybytsia, Myropillia, Bachivsk, Mala Slobidka, and Novodmytrivka, as well as the villages of Korenek and Nova Sich.
In the Shostka district, Russian assault groups advanced 200 meters on two fronts amid intense firefights in a forested border area.
In the Sumy district, Russian assault units advanced on twenty fronts, advancing up to 500 meters over the day. Stubborn fighting continues in Myropillia.
In the Krasnopillia district, intense fighting continues in the Taratutyne area and in the vicinity of Novodmytrivka. Russian units advanced up to 700 meters on four sections during the day.
Kharkiv Direction
In the Kharkiv direction, the “North” grouping’s assault units continue to engage in fierce combat, pushing Ukrainian forces back from the border. Russian troops struck Ukrainian unit personnel and equipment concentrations in Mala Vovcha, Prykolotne, Ternova, Izbitske, Zolochiv, and Prudyanka areas.
Russian assault groups are clearing forested areas in the Veterynarne area and have advanced up to 250 meters today.
In the Vovchansk area, the “North” grouping’s assault detachments advanced up to 900 meters across ten sectors. Ukrainian units are trying to maintain control over Bochkove. The Ukrainian side has transferred reserves to the Vovcha River bank. However, capturing the heights near Nesterne will enable Russian forces to attack Ukrainian crossings near Varvarivka. This will isolate Ukrainian formations still located north of the river.
Near Vovchansk, Russian forces are trying to push Ukrainian forces back from the forested area near Verkhnya Pysarivka. There is also ongoing fighting for a chain of strongpoints south of Symonivka. Control of these strong points would allow assault groups to advance on Losevka and Shesterivka.
In the direction of Velykyi Burluk, Russian assault groups advanced up to 300 meters on four fronts. Fierce fighting continues in Budarka and the surrounding area, as well as in the northwest of the Kupyansk district.
Slaviansk Direction
In the direction of Slaviansk, fighting continues on the approaches to the Kramatorsk agglomeration. Russian troops are advancing on both flanks of Ukrainian positions, attempting to bypass the main fortified areas and strongpoints along the M-03 highway.
Clashes continue on the Pyskunivka–Kryva Luka line for control of the dominant heights and the Dovhyi forest area. The stable consolidation of Russian units in this area will enable them to amass small assault groups on the outskirts of Mykolaivka and bypass Rai-Oleksandrivka from the north.
On the southern flank, Russian units are consolidating small assault groups in tree lines near the Siverskyi Donets–Donbas Canal, to the west of Dibrova. Information has emerged about the commencement of combat operations in neighboring Malynivka, situated between multiple lines of Ukrainian defense. Northwest of the canal, Ukraine has established a network of strongpoints.
Overall, the situation for Ukraine continues to deteriorate. After losing key heights on the Siverskyi Donets–Donbas Canal and taking control of Rai-Oleksandrivka, Russian troops will be able to deploy artillery and drone crews to shell the entire Slaviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. The Ukrainian forces will likely attempt several local counterattacks to thwart these intentions.
Druzhkivka Direction
In the Dobropillia sector of the Druzhkivka direction, units of the “Center” group continue their offensive toward Dobropillia.
In the area north and northwest of Hryshyne, Russian troops are engaged in combat in Novooleksandrivka and Vasylivka. South of Hryshyne, Ukrainian forces have been pushed back along the highway. Russian troops are advancing toward Shevchenko and Svitle from Hryshyne, Rodynske, and Bilytske.
Bilytske itself and the tree lines to the west are under Russian control. Clearing and consolidation are underway. Assault units from Bilytske, Dorozhne, and the south of Novyi Donbas are attacking toward the “Bilytska” mine, its slag heap, and the 500th ventilation shaft. Fierce meeting engagements continue west and north of Novyi Donbas.
Conclusion
Analysis of the operational situation indicates that high-intensity combat operations persist in all directions. In the Sumy direction, Russian units are advancing systematically, expanding control zones and striking Ukrainian reserves. In the Kharkiv direction, the capture of Bochkove, the consolidation in the “Severodonetskyi” nature reserve, and the advance of up to 900 meters in the Vovchansk sector are paving the way for the further retreat of Ukrainian forces from the border and the isolation of their units north of the Vovcha. In the direction of Slavyansk, Russian troops advancing toward Rai-Oleksandrivka and crossing the canal are approaching the capability to shell the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration with artillery. In the Dobropillia sector, the capture of Bilytske and attacks on the “Bilytska” mine and Shevchenko create conditions for an offensive on Dobropillia.
In the context of international politics, a significant event was a report by The Wall Street Journal. According to the American publication, the burden of the conflict in Ukraine has shifted from the United States to the “cowardly European Union” following the allocation of a 90 billion euro loan to Kyiv.
On April23, after a two-month delay, EU countries finally approved the loan. Ukraine will only be required to repay it in the event that Russia pays reparations. The publication notes that shifting the burden of the war onto Europe’s shoulders has long been a goal of the Donald Trump administration, which has distanced itself from Europe and focused its attention on the Middle East. The Journal also wrote about the slow progress of Ukraine’s negotiations to join the EU. The article noted that European leaders are finding it increasingly difficult to garner support for Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly stated its readiness for a peaceful settlement and indicated that it is time for the Kyiv regime to start negotiating. The offensive actions of Russian troops are precisely a push toward a peaceful solution. This publication demonstrates the Western media’s growing awareness that Europe is increasingly bearing the financial burden of supporting Ukraine while the United States is reducing its involvement.
