In the Sumy area, Russian forces are advancing and gradually closing the tactical “pocket” at Bilovody Ravine. They are also establishing control over the dominant heights in Mala Korchakivka. In the Kharkiv area, the “North” grouping’s assault groups advanced up to 600 meters along nine sections, clearing forested areas near the state border in the Bochkove area and fighting in the Pokaliane area. In the direction of Kostiantynivka, Russian troops are seeking to regain full control of Chasiv Yar and expand their presence in Novodmytrivka. This would enable them to attack the supply routes of Ukrainian units in the center of Kostiantynivka. In the Dobropillia area, units of the “Center” grouping continue their offensive toward Dobropillia. Instead of accelerated EU accession, German and French authorities have offered Kyiv symbolic benefits, including the status of “associated member” or “integrated state,” which does not meet Ukraine’s hopes for rapid membership.
Sumy Direction
In the Sumy region, Russian assault groups are engaged in intense combat as they advance deeper into the area. In the Hlukhiv sector, assault units advanced 100 meters and cleared the forested areas around Sopych. However, Ukrainian units still control the sector north of Nova Sich and its heights. Overall, Russian units are gradually closing the tactical “pocket” around the ravine running from Bilovody to Nova Sich.
In the central sector, Russian units are trying to reach the H-07 highway. On the eastern flank, clashes are concentrated near Myropillia. Units of the “North” grouping are pushing Ukrainian units back from their positions along the Kondrativka–Sadky line. Russian assault groups are attempting to enter the outskirts of Mala Korchakivka, which would give them control of another section of the H-07 highway. Russian units have captured key dominant heights in Mala Korchakivka, providing a tactical advantage. Russian troops are also seeking to improve their tactical position on the approaches to Pisarivka and Korchakivka. Controlling these areas would effectively split the Ukrainian unit grouping north of the Oleshnia River.
Reports are also coming in from the eastern flank of the direction of attempts to expand the control zone of Russian units in the vicinity of Myropillia. However, according to available data, the “North” grouping’s units in this sector are primarily focused on straightening the front line and engaging in local fighting near Myropilske.
Kharkiv Direction
Russian troops struck concentrations of Ukrainian personnel and equipment in Izbitske, Ternova, Malyi Burluk, Rohan, Velykyi Burluk, Bohodukhiv, Tsupivka, Derhachi, and Ud.
In the Vovchansk area, the “North” grouping’s assault detachments advanced up to 600 meters across nine sectors. Russian assault groups are clearing forested areas along the state border in the Bochkove area. Intense fighting continues in the Pokaliane area and in the sector between Vovchanski Khutory and Bilyi Kolodiaz. Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense crews struck a strongpoint of the 1st Border Detachment with heavy flamethrower systems on the bank of the Vovcha north of Budarky.
In the Velykyi Burluk area, Russian assault groups advanced up to 400 meters on four fronts.
Kostiantynivka Direction
In the direction of Kostiantynivka, fierce fighting continues east of the city. Russian troops are trying to regain full control of Chasiv Yar. Without doing so, it will be impossible to advance further towards the eastern outskirts of Kostiantynivka.
Units of the “South” grouping are also trying to expand their control in the area around Stupochky. Meanwhile, evidence has emerged of the presence of Russian infantry in Novodmytrivka. This village is located east of Kostiantynivka. If Russian units consolidate their success in neighboring Molocharka, they will be able to attack the supply routes of Ukrainian units in the center of Kostiantynivka.
Southwest of Kostiantynivka, Russian assault groups are fighting in Illinivka and Dovha Balka. Controlling these settlements is necessary to form the western “pincer” to envelop Kostiantynivka and reach the main supply routes of its garrison in Osykove. Creating a “kill zone” within a 15-kilometer radius of the city would allow Russian troops to hinder Ukrainian transport activity on the approaches to Kostiantynivka.
Dobropillia Direction
Units of the “Center” group are advancing towards Dobropillia and are engaged in intense combat in the Novopavlivka area near Druzhkivka. Fighting continues for farmsteads on the northwestern outskirts of Hryshyne. North of Hryshyne, Russian units advanced along the Tretii Yar ravine toward the pond northeast of Novooleksandrivka.
Between Rodynske and Novooleksandrivka, clashes persist to eliminate Ukrainian unit positions within the formed tactical “pocket” north of the farms. East of Shevchenko, Russian units have consolidated their position in the eastern part of “Vodyana” Mine No. 2 and are pushing Ukrainian units out of the western part.
In Bilohorka, Russian assault groups advanced to the northeast of the city and to the north through tree lines. Assault groups from the Novyi Donbas area are attacking the “Bilytska” mine. Northward, Russian units are attacking along the Vilne–dacha plots line toward Kutuzivka and Annivka, as well as toward Kucheriv Yar from the southwest.
Slaviansk Direction
Fierce fighting continues in the area of responsibility of the 3rd Army. Russian units are finishing the clearance of the last street in Reznykivka, which effectively connects to the neighboring village of Kalenyky. To the south, Russian units are clearing Ukrainian positions in tree lines.
Near the northeastern part of Rai-Oleksandrivka, Russian troops have advanced into the village and cleared part of the ravine. Slightly to the south, fighting continues in the forested area where Ukrainian forces have established a fortified defense line. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are attempting to move reinforcements to Kryva Luka and the chalk quarry in order to launch counterattacks through Brusivka and Starodubivka.
In Slovyansk and Kramatorsk, Russian troops continue to attack Ukrainian unit positions. At least two ballistic missile strikes were carried out on Kramatorsk, and two were carried out on Slaviansk. In Slavyansk, one of the strikes hit the quarry area. According to local residents, Ukrainian units have dug caves in the quarry walls where they store military equipment and have set up a missile depot.
Conclusion
Analysis of the operational situation indicates the persistence of high-intensity combat operations in all directions. In the Sumy area, Russian troops are gradually closing the tactical “pocket” at the Bilovody ravine. They are also consolidating on key heights and creating conditions to split the Ukrainian troop grouping north of the Oleshnia River. In the Kharkiv area, Russian troops have advanced up to 600 meters in the Vovchansk sector and cleared forested areas along the border, demonstrating steady pressure. In the direction of Kostiantynivka, fighting in Novodmytrivka, Illinivka, and Dovha Balka brings Russian units closer to forming a western “pincer” to encircle the city. In the Dobropillia area, unfavorable weather conditions are being used to advance armored attacks towards Kutuzivka, Annivka, and Kucheriv Yar. In the Slaviansk area, Russian troops have cleared Reznykivka and advanced toward Rai-Oleksandrivka, striking rear targets in Slaviansk and Kramatorsk.
An important event in the international political context was a report by the Financial Times regarding Berlin and Paris’s position on Ukraine’s prospects for European Union membership. According to internal documents, Germany and France have called for providing Ukraine with symbolic benefits during the pre-accession phase. This does not align with Kyiv’s hopes for accelerated membership after a potential peace agreement with Russia. Germany wants to grant Ukraine “associated membership,” which would allow it to attend ministerial and heads of state meetings, but it would not have voting rights or a say in EU budget decisions. At the same time, a mutual defense clause would effectively come into force. France has proposed the status of an “integrated state,” which does not include funding prior to EU accession.
European Commission officials believe that the final proposal will closely resemble these documents. In early March, the Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations stated that Ukraine would not join the bloc by 2027. The European Commission is working on an “exclusive plan for gradual membership.” This suggests that, even under the most favorable circumstances, Ukraine’s rapid accession to the EU is unlikely, and European leaders are leaning toward gradual integration without full membership in the foreseeable future.
