The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence announced on April 7 that HMS Dragon, a Royal Navy type-45 guided missile destroyer, will be docked after experiencing a “minor technical issue.”
The warships will be going into port for a “routine logistics stop” and a “short maintenance period,” the ministry said in a statement.
A problem with the ship’s onboard water system will need to be repaired, but the destroyer will remain at high readiness during this time.
“HMS Dragon is undertaking a routine logistics stop and a short maintenance period in the eastern Mediterranean, allowing the ship to take onboard provisions, optimize systems, and conduct maintenance,” a MoD spokesman said. “HMS Dragon will remain at a very high level of readiness during this period, able to sail at short notice if required.”
The warship was sent to the eastern Mediterranean Sea to strengthen the two Royal Air Force bases on Cyprus, which were targeted with drones shortly after the start of the American-Israeli war on Iran more than a month ago, with later reports indicating that Hezbollah may have been responsible.
The MoD announcement came just two days after Israel’s Channel 14 News reported that Hezbollah launched a “shore-to-sea missile” at a British warship after mistaking it for an Israeli one. According to the news channel, the Israeli assessment indicated that “damage was caused” by the missile attack from Lebanon.
Hezbollah announced the attack at the time, saying that it had targeted a warship of the Israeli Navy sailing 68 nautical miles off the coast of Lebanon with a cruise missile. Following the Channel 14 News report, it was speculated by many analysts that Hezbollah’s missile hit HMS Dragon.
British defense sources told The Telegraph that the warship was not attacked or struck. However, the MoD’s latest announcement indicates that something indeed happened.

tom sharpe, retired british naval officer in a daily telegraph article calls an operation to force passage to the strait of hormuz as essentially impossible. a look at amphibious assault ship uss tripoli being attacked by drones and forced to withdraw makes you wonder, what those 39 other nations could have to throw into the battle to actually make a difference over the mighty us navy.
