A United States Army CH-47F Chinook military heavy-lift tandem-rotor helicopter was hit by one of the recent Iranian strikes on Camp Buehring in Kuwait, according to photos that surfaced online on April 4.
Camp Buehring, a huge staging post in northwestern Kuwait, serves as the primary location for the U.S. Army’s Middle Eastern Theater Reserve. It provides critical live-fire ranges in the wider Udairi Range Complex area, in addition to desert-familiarization training meant to prepare tens of thousands of troops for combat operations in the region.
The post is capable of hosting dozens of helicopters, and has an airstrip especially for military cargo aircraft and combat drones.
The Chinook hit there was very much destroyed. The photos from the Camp show the helicopter’s cockpit area torn apart, with visible destruction to the forward rotor assembly and front blades.
A new Chinook helicopter generally costs between $32 million and over $60 million, depending on configuration, spare parts, and support packages.

The U.S. took a series of aerial losses on April 3, with an F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet and an A-10 Thunderbolt II attack jet getting shot down while on mission against Iran. One of two crew members of the F-15E has been rescued, while the fate of the second remains unclear. The pilot of the A-10 was also rescued.
In addition, a UH-60 Black Hawk and two HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters were damaged while taking part in search and rescue operations.
There were also some reports of an F-16CJ Wild Weasel fighter jet — specialized in hunting air defenses — and two KC-135 Stratotanker aerial refueling tanker aircraft facing some issues over Iraq, and Israel, respectively.
As the war drags on, the U.S., and even Israel, will take more aerial losses. While this is expected in any conflict, both countries went into the war against Iran more than a month ago with the precipitation that they can deal a blow to the Islamic Republic with no cost.
