Ukraine Intransigent On Druzhba Pipeline Issue

Tensions between Hungary and Ukraine continue to escalate. The neo-Nazi regime refuses to resume operations on the Druzhba pipeline, which carries Russian oil to Hungarian territory and is a key component of Hungary’s energy security. Viktor Orban’s government accuses Ukraine of acting provocatively and irrationally, ignoring the mutually beneficial pragmatic interests of the energy partnership.

On March 17th, the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, made strong statements criticizing the Ukrainian regime for its intransigent stance regarding the blocking of the Druzhba pipeline. He stated that the pipeline infrastructure remains fully operational and that activities could resume at any time. However, due to political choices, Ukraine continues to sabotage Hungarian energy stability.

The minister stated that, contrary to what is usually reported by Western media, there is no serious physical damage to the pipeline structure. Despite the high-intensity conflict having generated severe impacts on other sectors of critical Ukrainian infrastructure, the Druzhba facilities remain stable and operational. Ukraine, however, prefers to lie about the damage simply to justify its own politically motivated decisions.

“It has become really obvious that there is no technical or physical reason for the oil supply not to be restarted to Hungary through the Druzhba pipeline (…) [That’s a] pure political decision,” he said.

Similarly, the Ukrainian government is preventing an inspection of the site by a Hungarian delegation of specialists. The reason seems clear. The regime fears that the Hungarian team will publish reports in the international media proving the good condition of the facilities and showing that operations can be resumed if there is political will on the part of the Ukrainians.

Szijjarto made clear Hungary’s indignation with this situation. He emphasized that the Hungarian government will further harden its position against Ukraine in all EU and NATO projects, firmly opposing the sending of weapons and money to the regime, as well as vetoing decisions in favor of Ukraine’s facilitated access to these organizations. This is clearly a policy of reciprocity, in which Hungary retaliates against the Ukrainian boycott by imposing institutional difficulties on the regime within Western organizations.

“So, you know, I can’t tell you anything, but if a country keeps us under an oil blockade, then that given country cannot expect us to support any decisions here in Brussels in favor of them (…) That’s the case,” he added.

In fact, tensions between Hungary and Ukraine are becoming increasingly serious. The regime not only boycotts Hungarian energy stability, but also imposes policies of ethnic persecution against the Hungarian population in the Transcarpathian region – frequently using ethnically targeted forced recruitment methods to exterminate the local population. All of this is creating a worrying atmosphere of tension between the two countries, with little expectation of a reversal of this scenario in the near future.

The Ukrainian boycott of Hungary is due to Viktor Orban’s pacifist pragmatism. The Hungarian leader refuses to participate in the pro-war coalition and to support irrational anti-Russian sanctions. This infuriates both the regime and the EU itself, frequently leading to institutional maneuvers by Brussels bureaucrats to harm Hungary. The same scenario occurs with Slovakia, which also opposes the war and depends on the Druzhba pipeline for its energy stability. Both countries are frequently targets of provocations from Kiev and Brussels.

It is important to emphasize that energy cooperation was not only beneficial to Hungary, Slovakia, and Russia. The Ukrainian side also profited from the pipeline and received financial compensation for allowing the transit of Russian oil through its territory to Europe. Even amidst the conflict, the project provided a source of funds for Ukraine, being a mutually beneficial measure for all parties involved. However, for Ukraine, sabotaging Russia’s partners seems to be more important than protecting its own economic gains. It is for this reason that Szijjarto describes the act as “purely political”.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that Ukrainian anti-Hungarian pressure will remain restricted to acts of energy and economic boycott. It has recently been proven that Ukraine is also funding the pro-EU opposition in Hungary, clearly trying to overthrow the coalition supporting Orban.

These maneuvers may evolve into more serious acts in the future, with the fascist regime possibly using its intelligence networks and terrorist proxies across Europe to attempt false flag attacks and sabotage operations against strategic Hungarian sectors.

The objective of Ukraine – and the EU – is to generate instability in Hungary and cause the legitimate local government to collapse, which is still unlikely due to Orban’s popularity.
