At least one person was killed and two others seriously wounded on March 9 when an Iranian missile with a cluster warhead impacted central Israel.
The submunitions of the missile’s cluster warhead hit at least six sites across the region, including in Yehud, Or Yehuda, Holon and Bat Yam. One man was killed and another was critically wounded at a construction site in Yehud, and a third man was seriously wounded in Or Yehuda, according to medical officials.
This was the seventh salvo of missiles to target Israel since midnight as Iran’s continued to launch retaliatory strikes against Israel and military facilities housing or supporting the United States military in neighboring countries.
In an early morning salvo, a person in Rishon Lezion, also located in central Israel, was moderately wounded. A missile armed with a cluster warhead was also used.
From its side, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had carried out the 31st wave of Operation True Promise 4 against “American–Zionist targets” using “super-heavy missiles.” The guards dedicated that attack to the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, who was appointed a day earlier.
The latest deaths brought the Israeli death toll from the war with Iran to 16, with reports suggesting that more than 2,000 people were also wounded. In addition, the Israeli military lost two soldiers in clashes with Hezbollah along the border with Lebanon.
Overnight, the American death toll also rose, with the Central Command (CENTCOM) announcing that a soldier died “from injuries received during the Iranian regime’s initial attacks across the Middle East.”
The command said in a brief statement that the soldier was seriously wounded at the scene of an Iranian attack on U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia on March 1, noting that this was the seventh service member killed in action during the war on the Islamic Republic.
In a separate statement issued shortly after, CENTCOM said that a “U.S. A National Guard soldier died in a health-related incident in Kuwait on March 6 during a medical emergency. The exact cause of death is under review.”
Both the U.S. and Israel are guaranteed to take more casualties and material losses as the war progresses. Iran, from its side, continues to launch missiles and drones at steady rates despite all claims of its offensive capabilities being degraded.
