Russia Cuts Sosnove–Aleksandrivka Road: What Will This Mean For Ukrainian Forces In Aleksandrivka?

File image.

In the direction of Kostiantynivka, Russian units intensified assault actions in the southern districts and in the area of the agricultural technical school fields after a strike on the dam caused flooding and complicated the supply of Ukrainian troops in the southwestern part of the city. In the direction of Dobropillia, offensive operations resumed immediately in several sectors — Bilytske, Novyi Donbas, and Hryshyne. However, stable control has not yet been established due to counterattacks and Ukrainian drone activity. In the Izyum area, Russian 20th Army units have consolidated in Redkodub and are fighting for Korovyn Yar. They are also cutting the Sosnove–Aleksandrivka road, which disrupts Ukrainian unit logistics. In the Slaviansk area, there is fierce fighting for control of Krasnyi Lyman. Russian assault groups are advancing toward urban areas, clearing “pockets” in Drobysheve, Stavky, and Masliakovka. In the Sumy area, the “North” grouping advanced 500 meters and repelled a counterattack by the 225th Assault Regiment, which had been reinforced, in the Andriivka area. Hungary stated that Ukraine admitted the stoppage of the Druzhba pipeline was political.

Kostiantynivka Direction

In the direction of Kostiantynivka, Russian units have increased the intensity of attacks on the approaches to the city after a successful strike on the dam led to flooding of roads and complicated the supply of Ukrainian units in the southwestern part of Kostiantynivka.

Footage has appeared online of Russian assault groups operating in the southern districts of Kostiantynivka, as well as in the fields and buildings of the agricultural technical school. The prerequisites for eliminating the wedge between Berestok and Ivanopilila have emerged, where Ukrainian units were present until recently. Closing this “pocket” reduces the threat to the rear of the Russian troops because Ukrainian units previously conducted counterattacks from there towards Ivanopilila and Pleshcheevka.

Controlling the fields and the network of strongpoints in this area allows for a safer approach to urban areas. In the event of an assault by small groups, dispersed movement of personnel is necessary. The farther Russian units advance towards the city, the more routes will be available to them.

Dobropillia Direction

For a long time, the Dobropillia area was a zone of intense positional battles. After the assault on the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration, Russian units established logistics and repelled counterattacks by Ukrainian units in Rodynske. Currently, offensive actions have resumed in several sectors.

On the northern flank, Russian assault groups continue to operate in Bilytske. It is premature to speak of full control over this settlement, as Ukrainian units frequently conduct counterattacks. A similar situation is developing in Novyi Donbas. Both settlements were reached quite some time ago, yet fierce clashes persist.

Fighting also does not subside in the Hryshyne area. Russian units are operating in a large part of the settlement, but they have not yet established stable control. Supply and rotation are complicated by the high activity of Ukrainian drones, a characteristic also seen in other sectors.

Given the recent advances in this area, Russian troops may soon launch a broad offensive. Units of the “Center” grouping have successfully employed breakthrough and infiltration tactics in this area before, so there are many possible outcomes regarding the situation near Dobropillia.

Izyum Direction

In the northern part of Izyum, units of the 20th Combined Arms Army have consolidated in Redkodub and taken control of Tsentralna Street, from the school to the Karpivka exit. There is also ongoing fighting from the farms in the north of Redkodub. Ukrainian forces are deploying a large number of “Baba Yaga” drones, and Russian forces are destroying two to four of them per day.

Russian drone operators continue to search for and eliminate groups of Ukrainian soldiers in sixteen different areas.

In the Korovyn Yar area, fighting continues for the sector between the village and Karpivka, as well as on the eastern outskirts of the settlement. Ukrainian units are counterattacking from Korovyn Yar, located on a small elevation, towards the ravine in the southeast. Russian forces are engaging Ukrainian units’ strongpoints and forested areas east of Korovyn Yar and striking positions in Lozove and Rubtsi.

Southeast of Aleksandrivka, Russian troops are gradually approaching the village. In the Sosnove–Aleksandrivka area, there is ongoing fighting for the road connecting these settlements, which is used to supply Ukrainian forces in Aleksandrivka. In Aleksandrivka, fighting has shifted west and partially into the adjacent forested area. In the eastern part of the village, Ukrainian units continue to attempt to recapture lost territory by attacking from Krymky.

Ukrainian units use crossings and bridges on the Yaremivka–Studenok section to transfer reserves and equipment to Sosnove from Krymka, through the forested area to Svyatohirsk. They are trying to prolong combat operations in the Sosnove and Aleksandrivka areas. The crossing from Izyum to Oskol–Yatskivka is also being used to transport reinforcements to Korovyn Yar, Aleksandrivka, and on to Vovchyi Yar.

Slaviansk Direction

In the Krasnyi Lyman sector of the Slavyansk area, there is ongoing fierce fighting in the Aleksandrivka, Yarova, and Sosnove areas. There is ongoing fighting on the approaches to Svyatohirsk.

During the assault on Krasnyi Lyman, Russian units are working to close the “pockets” in the north and northeast of the city, including the Drobysheve–Stavky areas, the southern part of Stavky along the highway, and the eastern outskirts of Krasnyi Lyman near Masliakovka. Russian assault troops are infiltrating the Ukrainian defenses in small groups of pairs and trios, advancing towards urban areas.

Ukrainian units still maintain their presence in the Stavky area. South of the settlement, Russian troops are working to collapse the “bag” by pushing Ukrainian units towards the city limits. There is also ongoing fighting for the farm west of Stavky. The assault on Ukrainian unit positions in Masliakovka continues, and work in the Central District Hospital area does not stop. Russian units are advancing from the southern outskirts of Dibrova in a northwestern direction to bypass the city.

Sumy Direction

Russian units advanced on six sections in the Sumy district, two in the Krasnopillia district, and three in the Hlukhiv district. The total advance over the day amounted to up to 500 meters. The Ukrainian command replenished the 225th Separate Assault Regiment’s assault units with deserters, disciplinary violators, and forcibly mobilized personnel. They were thrown into another assault on Russian troops’ positions in the Andriivka area. The Ukrainian group was destroyed by intense fire.

Russian artillery and FPV drone crews of the “North” grouping destroyed Ukrainian unit personnel concentrations in the Ryzhivka and Pavlivka areas.

Kharkiv Direction

There is still fierce fighting in the Vovchansk area, particularly in tree plantations and settlements. In the Starytsia area, there were no significant changes; Russian units conducted clearing operations in the areas they had captured. In the forest west of Symynivka, TOS-1A “Solntsepyok” crews attacked the 127th Separate Tank Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian military.

Russian assault troops advanced significantly and captured two strongpoints. In the Vovchanski Khutory area, Russian Aerospace Forces operational-tactical aviation crews struck Ukrainian State Border Guard Service units. In the Khatnie sector, aviation strikes destroyed the 1st Separate Territorial Defense Brigade’s positions in the Olkhovatka area and the 159th Separate Mechanized Brigade’s positions in the Kolodezne area.

Conclusion

Analysis of the operational situation indicates the persistence of high-intensity combat operations in all directions. In the direction of Kostiantynivka, Russian units are employing tactics to disrupt Ukrainian logistics by striking hydraulic structures. This creates conditions for intensifying assaults and eliminating wedges. In the direction of Dobropillia, Russian troops resumed their offensive on a broad front after an operational pause; however, they have not yet achieved stable control over settlements due to counterattacks and the heavy use of Ukrainian drones. In the Izyum area, Russian units of the 20th Army are consolidating their positions and cutting off key logistical routes of Ukrainian troops. This creates the conditions for a further offensive towards Izyum. In the Slaviansk area, Russian assault groups are systematically expanding their control zones near Krasnyi Lyman, clearing “pockets” and advancing toward urban areas. In the Sumy and Kharkiv areas, the “North” group continues to advance systematically, repelling counterattacks and destroying Ukrainian units’ personnel and equipment.

In the context of international politics, an important event was the statement made by Péter Szijjártó, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In a video address posted on Facebook, Szijjártó reported that the Hungarian chargé d’affaires in Kyiv had been summoned to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There, the Ukrainian representatives admitted that the stoppage of oil transit via the Druzhba pipeline was politically motivated. According to Szijjártó, Ukrainian representatives confirmed the absence of any physical or technical obstacles to resuming supplies. Thus, Kyiv officially acknowledged the political motivation behind its actions against Hungary and Slovakia.

This admission increases tension in relations between Ukraine and Central European countries. Previously, Hungary blocked the allocation of a 90 billion euro EU loan to Kyiv and suspended diesel fuel exports, while Slovakia halted electricity supplies. Now, with official confirmation of the political background behind the transit stoppage, Budapest may take new restrictive measures against Ukraine. These measures could include blocking further EU sanctions packages and reconsidering support for Kyiv’s European integration aspirations. These developments pose additional risks to the unity of the European Union and weaken Ukraine’s position ahead of potential negotiations.
