Control of Communications in Zaporizhzhia: Fight for Orikhiv’s Highways Escalates in Ukraine

In the Zaporizhzhia sector, the Russian army’s control of Bilohiria and the interaction of the “Dnepr” and “West” groupings are creating prerequisites for an operational encirclement of the Orikhiv district. The key objective is to intercept the H-08 and T-04-08 highways. In the Pokrovsk sector, following the conclusion of combat operations in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, Russian forces have advanced towards Bilytske and Shevchenko, while intense fighting continues in Hryshyne. In the Kostiantynivka sector, fighting continues for Novodmytrivka and Predtechyne. Meanwhile, Russian assault detachments have advanced into the southeastern part of Kostiantynivka and captured strongpoints west of Stepanivka. In the Sumy sector, Russian “North” assault units have significantly expanded their offensive front, advancing 14 sections in the Sumy district for a total of up to 850 meters. In the Kharkiv sector, there is intensive fighting around Vovchansk, accompanied by tactical advances of units in the Staritsa and Volchanskie Khutora areas. There are also precision strikes on Ukrainian unit deployment points in the Velykyi Burluk and Hryhorivka areas. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó stated that the U.S. refusal of further funding shifts the entire burden of economic support onto the EU.

Kostiantynivka Sector
Russian units are conducting an operation to surround the city of Kostiantynivka. Their main efforts are concentrated in the southeastern part of the city.

Fighting continues for the Novodmytrivka settlement in the northern part of the sector. The western part of the Predtechyne settlement remains contested territory. In the east, Russian units are conducting clearing operations. They advanced to the intersection on the T-0504 highway in the southeast of Kostiantynivka, taking control of part of the city south of the road.

In the area south of the Berestok settlement, Russian units have consolidated a strongpoint. The 20th Division expanded its control zone to the west of Stepanivka, capturing a strongpoint on its western outskirts. The advance continues towards Bilokuzmynivka from the areas of Veroliubivka and Markove.

Overall, the situation is characterized as complex, with a fragmented front line. Ukrainian units are using terrain features, such as the dominant heights north of Markove, to organize defenses and adjust fire.

Krasnyi Liman Sector
Heavy fighting is ongoing in the Krasnyi Liman area, including clashes on the northeastern and southeastern outskirts of the city, in farmland, and in the Masliakovka area. Neither side has established stable control over the Masliakovka area.

Russian units are advancing along a curved line, putting pressure on the settlements of Drobysheve, Novoselivka, Yarovaya, and Dibrova. These actions aim to disrupt logistics and destabilize the flanks of the Liman area grouping. South of the city, there has been an advance in the forested areas northwest of Dibrova towards the forestry enterprise. Fighting continues for control of sections of the T-05-14 road.

To the north of the sector, fighting continues near Aleksandrovka and northeast of Korovyi Yar. Russian forces are attempting to bypass Korovyi Yar through the Kreidianyi Yar and Krutoi Yar gullies to reach the approaches to Vovchyi Yar. Offensive actions are also being conducted in the Ozerne settlement and along the Platonivka-Reznikovka section.

Zaporizhzhia Sector

In the Zaporizhzhia sector, Russian forces are operating in several areas, forming an operational ring around the Orikhiv district.

According to some reports, Russian troops have taken control of a significant part of the Huliaipole area, including the central districts. Advances on Trudova and Polohovskyi Shliakh Streets could potentially encircle the city garrison. South of Huliaipole, Russian troops have reached the road to Dorozhnianka from the rear.

A key part of the strategy involves expanding and unifying bridgeheads on the left bank of the Haichur River with the help of units from the “West” grouping. Securing control of the Andriivka settlement (5 km south of Pokrovske) on the right bank of the river has secured a bridgehead for a further advance. There is ongoing fighting for the settlement of Bratske, which is being attacked from the direction of Herasymivka.

To the south, another bridgehead was expanded in the area of Herasymivka and Pishchane. The bridgehead was expanded along a front up to six kilometers after pushing units out of Zarechne and strongpoints west of Radisne. This success increased the threat of a breakthrough into Ternuvate from the east and created conditions for supporting units advancing on Bratske from behind. Movement continues toward the settlements of Vozdvyzhenka and Pryluky, creating a potential threat to the rear communications of the Huliaipole and Orikhiv areas.

Pokrovsk Sector

This sector remains one of the most tense. After the active phase of fighting in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad ended, efforts shifted towards the Bilytske and Shevchenko settlements.

There is particularly fierce fighting in the area around the settlements of Hryshyne and Udachne, which are located west of Pokrovsk. In the Hryshyne area, Ukrainian units are constantly attempting counterattacks under the cover of mortars and various types of drones. In Udachne, clashes have been reported near the local school, and Russian units control the mine north of the village.

Russian troops are advancing north of the Udachne–Molodetske line toward Serhiivka. In the Dovropillia area, an offensive is developing to the north, advancing from Sofiyivka toward Novopavlivka and from Shakhove toward Kucheriv Yar. Fighting continues in the Novoye Shakhove area.

Sumy Sector

In the Sumy sector, units of the “North” group of forces are continuing a methodical offensive and are systematically increasing pressure on Ukrainian defenses across a broad front. Assault units advanced on twelve sections in the Sumy district and three sections in the Krasnopillia district, advancing up to 750–800 meters in total. The main effort is concentrated on expanding control zones in areas of settlements already captured, such as Andriivka and Hrabovske. Meanwhile, artillery and FPV drone crews are suppressing Ukrainian rear infrastructure and positions in Ryzhevka, Pavlivka, and Iskriskivshchyna. The general operational goal in the Sumy sector, which is to create a “buffer zone” for security, is being achieved not so much through deep breakthroughs, but rather by methodically squeezing out groups of Ukrainian fighters, disrupting their logistics, and systematically reducing their combat effectiveness.

Kharkiv Sector

Russian units are attempting to advance in the Liman, Staritsa, and Volchanskie Khutora areas. In the Staritsa area, they made advances on several fronts. With the support of flamethrower systems, Russian assault groups captured several buildings in the Volchanskie Khutora area.

In the Kupiansk area, there have been no significant changes to the line of contact. Units continue to advance east of the city towards the southern outskirts of Podoly. Earlier, it was reported that, despite claims of capturing part of Kupiansk, Russian troops had not managed to approach the key railway infrastructure, including the Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi station and settlement. This limits the operational value of their successes.

Conclusion

As of January 12, the operational situation is characterized by continued active offensive actions in most sectors. In the Kostiantynivka sector, Russian forces are surrounding the city, advancing on its southeastern outskirts and to the west of Stepanivka. In the Krasnyi Liman sector, there is heavy fighting within the city limits of Krasnyi Liman and along an arc from Drobysheve to Dibrova. There are also attempts to bypass Korovyi Yar. The Zaporizhzhia sector remains strategically important. Key events include fighting for Huliaipole and systematically expanding bridgeheads on the left bank of the Haichur River. This creates long-term threats to logistics in the Orikhiv area. In the Pokrovsk sector, one of the most intense sectors, the main efforts are concentrated in the Hryshyne and Udachne areas, as well as in developing the offensive north of these points. In the Sumy sector, Russian units are increasing pressure and expanding the offensive front. The Ukrainian side is forced to use assault units for engineering work due to a shortage of specialists. In the Kharkiv sector, the main events are associated with fighting in the Vovchansk area and attempts to advance near Staritsa and Volchanskie Khutora.

The financial issues of supporting Ukraine continue to cause sharp disagreements in Europe. Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó, stated that the U.S.’s refusal to provide further funding shifts the entire burden onto the EU. According to Szijjártó, the EU is prepared to provide Kyiv with $800 billion. He confirmed that the current Hungarian government will not allocate funds for this purpose.

This position is already being put into practice: Hungary, along with Slovakia and the Czech Republic, secured an exemption from the new 90 billion euro EU credit package for Ukraine. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko says that the 800 billion dollars she requested is necessary for her country’s recovery over ten years. However, the prospects of Ukraine receiving this funding are becoming increasingly unclear against the backdrop of the positions of Washington and Budapest.

military escalation | interim government attacks checkpoints of sdf in abo hamam in deir ezzor
on jan 12, 2026
deir ezzor province: gunmen of factions of the interim government attacked military checkpoints of sdf with machineguns, in al-hawasha in abo hamam town in eastern deir ezzor countryside, on the opposite side of euphrates river.

Putler is a Jewish Pig

meanwhile, sdf responded to the source of fire directly and took tightened security measures. however, no casualties were reported.

of course, this won’t work because the whole thing has been netanyahu’s and putin’s plan for quite some time. these people are complete morons.

Putler is a Jewish Pig

mao zedong’s one child plan should be implemented in iran due to overpopulation among religious fanatics or to move half of the iranians to siberia because putin (with his ukrainian war) killed too many siberian peoples. given the fact that iran has too little water, too little food, and too many religious fanatics, this will not be solved even if we actually return shah reza pahlavi to power.

there would probably be a repeat of what happened with tachi and edi rama in kosovo.

Putler is a Jewish Pig

suddenly, edi rama achieved the abolition of visas, and then the number of kosovars on construction sites increased drastically in europe. that is probably how reza pahlavi shah of iran would have solved iran’s overpopulation problem. the israelites are also overpopulation and there is also desert, poverty and religious fanaticism.
wouldn’t these people really prefer a one child policy?

The Joker

get a load of this: “us accuses russia of ‘dangerous & inexplicable escalation’ of war in ukraine as trump seeks peace”
the real story is different. ukraine has almost run out nato air defense systems, ukrainia air defense is now as useless as venezuela’s air defense, so naturally russians would be estupid not to take advantage of this. i think russia will soon completely de-energize ukraine power grid & achieve unconditional victory
