Hezbollah has handed over a number of land-attack cruise missiles developed and supplied by Syria to the Lebanese military.
Photos showing the missiles, at least three, were shared by Lebanon’s Al Jadeed TV late on January 6. The photos, reportedly taken at a Hezbollah facility between the towns of Kafra and Seddiqin in southern Lebanon, were likely leaked by the Lebanese military, which is currently facing immense pressure from both Israel and the United States to disarm the group.
The land-attack cruise missiles are a deeply modified version of the Soviet-era Tu-143 “Reys” jet-powered reconnaissance drone.
The system was most likely developed by Syria, which had large stockpiles of the drone, and supplied to Hezbollah sometime during the rule of former President Bashar al-Assad.

The existence of the cruise missile was first revealed by the Israeli military during its large-scale attack on Hezbollah, codenamed Operation Northern Arrows, in September of 2024.
At the time, the military shared footage of a strike on one such missile, identifying it as a “Russian-made DR-3,” or “VR-3,” both known codenames for the Tu-143. It said that the missile version has a range of 200 kilometers and carries a warhead weighing 300 kg.
It is unknown if Hezbollah managed to launch any of these missiles, or how effective they were. A similar concept based on the Tu-143 and other Soviet-era jet-powered drones was repeatedly used by Ukraine since the start of the Russian special military operation, with a very poor performance.
Israel has been launching strikes against Hezbollah on a regular basis since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire with Lebanon came into effect in November of 2024, citing “violations” by the group.
Faced with Israeli military pressure, the Lebanese government approved last August a plan to disarm Hezbollah in line with a proposal presented by the U.S.
In September, the government announced that it has begun to implement the first stage of the plan, which covers the region to the south of the Litani River in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah rejected any talk of disarmament, but has been quietly cooperating.
The photos of the missiles were leaked just a day before the committee monitoring the ceasefire, which includes representatives from France, Israel, Lebanon, the U.S., and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, is set to meet. The Lebanese military is expected to announce the compilation of the first stage of the disarmament plan following the meeting.
Despite the evident progress in the disarmament plan, some recent Hebrew and Arab media reports said that President Donlad Trump had given Israel a green light to escalate in Lebanon, and even possibly launch a full-on military operation against Hezbollah.
With all of its supply lines in Syria cut with the fall of the Assad regime and Iran weakened by the 12-day June war, Hezbollah is clearly attempting to dodge another war with Israel. However, the continuous escalation by the other side indicates that war is inevitable.

what’s the point of turning them in to the lebanese army? hezbollah said they aren’t going to disarm and clearly israel is going to keep bombing hezbollah anyway. now if the enemy discovers the cache and bombs that one thing, but turning them in to the lebanese army is a joke. either disarm or don’t disarm.
