On December 4, the Russian military advanced in three separate directions in both Kharkiv and Donetsk, mounting more pressure on Kiev forces.
In Kharkiv, the Zapad [West] Group of Forces stormed Bohuslavka, which is located right on the Oskil River. The northern part of the settlement has been captured, and battles are reported to be taking place now in the central part. Kiev forces seem unprepared to fight there, and thus, the settlement could get secured within a few days.
Russian troops resumed their advance in this direction only last week, and they have already made much progress which indicate that this may be just the start of a larger offensive.
The capture of Nova Kruhlyakivka would automatically put Ukrainian troops in Nova Kruhlyakivka, right to the east, under siege.
The main target of operations in this direction appears to be Borova, which is located far to the south of Bohuslavka. It’s worth noting that the Zapad Group of Forces is already approaching the settlement from Borivska Andriivka, which is much closer.
Meanwhile in Donetsk, the Zapad Group of Forces continues to improve its positions all around the key city of Krasny Liman.
Russian troops broke through Ukrainian defenses in Drobyshevo, located right to the north of Krasny Liman, capturing much of the settlements’ northern and eastern parts.
In recent days, the Zapad Group of Forces expanded its control to the south of Krasny Liman in a significant way, even threatening the last open road leading to the city from the west. Now, the breakthrough to the north of the city indicates that the capabilities of Kiev forces fighting there have been degraded. The battle will likely progress faster than before in favor of the Russian military.
To the southeast in Donetsk, the Yug [South] Group of Forces is developing its operations in Kostiantynivka, especially to the south of the key industrial city.
Russian troops made gains both to the east and west of the Klyeban-Bikskoye reservoir, in what appears to be a part of efforts to completely clear the southern outskirts of Kostiantynivka. It’s worth noting that the troops are at the same side advancing slowly, but surly, in the southeastern part of the city.
The Yug Group of Forces has already broken through Ukrainian defenses to the northeast of the city, and reached Klynove, but the battle inside the city will not likely expand until the entire southern outskirts are cleared.
All in all, Kiev forces seem incapable of defending their positions anywhere across the special military operations zone. Meanwhile, the Russian military is constantly advancing, shifting focus from one direction to another in order to keep Ukrainian military assets stretched thin.
