Russian forces from the ‘West’ group are tightening their siege of the strategically important city of Kupiansk from three sides. The R-85 highway is under fire from the Russian Armed Forces. Russian forces are advancing towards the Oskol River after capturing Shandrigolovo.

Kharkiv direction

Active offensive operations are continuing in this area. As of 29 September, Russian Armed Forces assault units have advanced more than two kilometers north of Kharkiv in the direction of the village of Ambarne, where they have taken up new positions. This threatens the flank of Ukrainian units in the area. Meanwhile, the ‘West’ group is continuing its attempts to block Kupiansk, fighting on its outskirts.
Blocking Kupiansk, a key logistics hub, would deprive the Ukrainian group on the eastern bank of the Oskol River of a stable supply line, opening the way for the Russian Armed Forces to advance further into the region towards Izium and Chuhuiv

In the Boguslav area, units of the ‘West’ group are also striking in the vicinity of Novoplatonovka and Borovskaya Andreevka. As a result of these successful actions, Russian forces have advanced towards Borovskaya Andreevka, threatening the flank of the Ukrainian group and paving the way for its potential encirclement.

Siversk direction

Active combat operations are underway in the Siversk area. The Russian Armed Forces are focusing their efforts on creating several crisis points to tie down Ukrainian Armed Forces reserves and subsequently defeat them. Russian units have advanced 2.5 kilometers and expanded their control zone significantly to the south of the city. Infantry, supported by aviation, are conducting attacks in the vicinity of the village of Vyemka. According to official data, units from three mechanized brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have sustained losses in this area.

The offensive is likely to continue towards the Zvanovka and Svyato-Pokrovskoye settlements, the last lines of defence protecting Seversk from the south. Advancing successfully in this direction, together with pressure from the north (in the Dronovka and Serebryanka area), could rapidly encircle the city and significantly worsen the position of the entire Ukrainian group in this area.

Donetsk direction (the Krasno-Limansky section):

The Russian Armed Forces have confirmed their complete control of the Shandrigolovo settlement on the western outskirts of Krasny Liman. The liberation of this settlement by the 144th Motorized Rifle Division of the 20th Army of the ‘West’ group is strategically important. Shandrigolovo is pivotal for further advances westward towards the Oskol River and southward towards the Seversky Donets. Fighting for the village lasted about a month. The Ukrainian side carried out more than ten unsuccessful counterattacks in an attempt to regain their positions, losing a hundred men in the process. Consequently, Russian troops have blocked the village from the north and south, compelling the besieged Ukrainian Armed Forces to retreat towards Novoselovka.

Donetsk direction (Pokrovsk sector)

There has been positional fighting with elements of tactical advancement in the Pokrovsk area. On 29 September, Russian units entrenched themselves in the residential area of the village of Kucherov Yar, increasing their zone of control by four kilometers on the Dobropillia salient. In turn, the Ukrainian side is actively using kamikaze drones to deter the Russian Armed Forces’ advance, regularly attacking their forward positions. According to official reports, units of the ‘Centre’ group are engaged in intense combat, targeting concentrations of Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel and equipment in the Udachny and Dimitrov areas.

Zaporizhzhia direction

In the Huliaipole area, Russian troops have expanded their zone of control in the Novoivanivka-Olgivske section by 3 kilometers over the past day. At the same time, the advanced positions of the Russian Armed Forces south of Novoivanivka are periodically subjected to artillery fire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Dnipropetrovsk (Novoselovsk) direction

This area has seen the most dynamic development of the Russian offensive. Following the liberation of the village of Stepovoye, units of the 36th Army of the Vostok Group have built on their success by breaking through the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Assault groups have broken through to the outskirts of the village of Verbovoye, pushing Ukrainian units back. Attempts by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to slow down the advance of Russian units using UAVs have not been particularly successful.

The main fighting on the southern flank of this breakthrough is taking place in the Novogrigorovka area. If the Russian Armed Forces manage to liberate it, they will be able to launch attacks on Uspenovka from several directions. In response, the Ukrainian command is strengthening its defenses in the Uspenovka area, recognizing its strategic importance.

If the current pace of the offensive is maintained, Russian troops may soon reach Vishneve. This would enable them to ‘cut off’ the Ukrainian Armed Forces group on the left bank of the Yanchur River and establish fire control over the strategic R-85 highway. This highway carries the most important supply routes for Ukrainian garrisons in the villages of Pokrovskoye and Gulyaypole, so controlling it would have serious operational consequences.

Conclusion:

In the Kharkiv area, advances towards Ambarne and the effective blockade of Kupiansk by the “West” group are paving the way for the total evacuation of Ukrainian forces from the left bank of the Oskol River. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian command continues to stabilize the front by transferring reserves and strengthening defensive positions. Of particular importance is the success in the direction of Boguslav, where the Russian Armed Forces have taken more advantageous positions.

In the Donetsk area, a classic operation is underway to ‘cut off’ the defensive salient. The successful advance of 2.5 km south of Seversk, coupled with the complete control of Shandrigolovo, threatens the flanks of the Ukrainian group in the Krasny Liman area. Liberating Shandrigolovo would enable it to be used as a springboard for further advances westwards towards the Oskol River.

In the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, the Russian command is demonstrating its most ambitious operational plans. The 36th Army of the Vostok group has broken through in the Steppove and Verbove area, and is developing an offensive on Novohryhorivka and Vyshneve. This has far-reaching consequences for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Taking control of the R-85 highway, a vital supply route for Ukrainian garrisons in Pokrovskoye and Gulyaypole, could lead to the operational isolation of a large Ukrainian force and destabilize the entire southern section of the front.
