Kiev Forces Lost More Ground Near Seversk, Yampil (Videos)

Kiev forces have lost more ground near Seversk and in Yampil to the Russian military’s Yug [South] Group of Forces, which appear to be developing its offensive operations in this part of the Donetsk direction.

Reports from September 29 revealed that Russian troops have launched a fresh offensive against Kiev forces from Vyemka northwards. The troops advanced along the railway leading to Seversk, reaching the reservoir right before the southern outskirts of the city.

This offensive, if successful, could push Ukrainian troops out of the pocket between Vyemka and Pereizne to the south of Seversk.

It would also sever the supply line linking the city with Zanivka. The western outskirts of Seversk would also come under the fire control of the Yug Group of Forces from three directions.

In addition to the offensive from Vyemka, Russian troops continue to operate in mine Number 6 area to the northeast of Seversk. They are also advancing from Serebrianka, further to the northeast of the city, towards Dronovka in the northwest. It’s worth noting that Dronovka is also under attack from the direction of Yampil.

While mine Number 6 makes any offensive towards the northeastern outskirts of Seversk very difficult, the advance towards Dronovka could open the way for a direct maneuver into the northwestern outskirts of the city which are less fortified.

Further to the north, Russian troops are reported to have made gains in the northern part of Yampil. The troops established a foothold in the eastern part of the settlement earlier this month. Advance was also reported in a forest located to the north of Yampil, and right to the south of Zarichne.

Yampil will likely be captured by the Yug Group of Forces soon. This would threaten Seversk’s main supply line, the one linking the city with Liman to the north.

Separately, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed on September 29 that the Zapad [West] Group of Forces has taken over Shandryholove, to the north of Liman.

“Assault groups, using the entire arsenal of small arms, broke into the enemy’s positions, mopped up houses and structures from the rest of the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) garrison. The servicemen deployed the State flags of the Russian Federation in the settlement,” the ministry said in a statement.

“The Zapad Group’s servicemen continue to advance, pushing the enemy out of settlements and fortified positions. As the Russian troops push back the enemy, they capture trophies and AFU servicemen,” it added.

Russian troops are already advancing towards Novoselivka and Drobysheve, to the southwest and south of Shandryholove, although Kiev forces are fighting back fiercely in this area.

All in all, the situation of Kiev forces in Seversk is only getting worse. Any serious Russian breakthrough to the north or south could place the city under siege. Liman is also at risk. The fall of Yampil and a large offensive towards Drobysheve could put the city in a situation as bad as that of Seversk.
