The Ukrainian military intelligence attacked on September 10 a Russian Project MPSV07 ice-strengthened multipurpose salvage ship in the Black Sea.
In a statement, the intelligence agency, more known by its acronym HUR, said that the ship was tracked and targeted while carrying out reconnaissance and patrolling for the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet in Novorossiysk Bay near Krasnodar Kra.
The agency also released a video apparently taken from the electro-optical system of the drone used to target the ship. The thermal footage indicates that the drone impacted the deck directly above the navigating bridge. In addition, the word “Rescuer” painted on the port side of the ship can be clearly seen in the footage.
Ukraine typically use fixed-wing, long-range suicide drones equipped with Starlink satellite internet systems in such attacks in the Black Sea.
“As a result of the strike, the Russian vessel’s electronic intelligence systems were destroyed, and the ship was disabled and sent for costly repairs,” HUR said in the statement, which was released a day after the attack.
Some of the claims made by the HUR are straight up false. Project MPSV07 ships are only designed to conduct salvage operations, they are not armed or equipped with electronic intelligence systems. These ships are also not in service with the Russian Navy, but rather with the Marine Rescue Service of the Russian Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport, more known as Rosmorrechflot.
Five Project MPSV07 ships, each with a displacement over 2,800 tons, are currently being operated by Rosmorrechflot, with a sixth under construction. It is unclear which of the active ships was targeted by the HUR.
It’s worth noting that the ships of this project have provided support to many civilian ships in distress in the Black Sea and other bodies of waters since entering service in 2012.
Rosmorrechflot is entrusted to manage state property, maintain transport security-related tasks and provide services in the field of maritime and inland waterway transport. It is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation. Thus, any claims linking Project MPSV07 ships to military operations is completely false.
What remains of Ukraine’s claims are highly questionable. It is very unlikely that a strike with a single drone managed to “disable” the ship.
The attack on the Project MPSV07 ship represents a dangerous escalation. Unable to attack Russian warships in the Black Sea like before, Ukraine is apparently now trying to normalize attacks on rescue ships, and could soon attack civilian ships en-route to Russian ports.

still phishing for the bodies of lost ukrainians? eh?
maybe nato and ukraine should sink their own ships, to save the russian rescue ships?
that seems to be what putin is counting on since he won’t/can’t let the russian black sea fleet conduct any containment operations on the ukrop.
if “ukraine” had any intelligence, they would not be in this situation to begin with
my first thought ! 1,00,0000 up votes !
“ukranian inteligence”, yeah right.
where is the russian navy, why is the bandera allowed to operate on the black sea?
the russian generals lack ing 150 meter rolls of sheep netting
some scaffold tube god bless children of war
another mess form nato
starlink is only a nato / us military satellite system. no surprise it appears again in the war theatre. happy 911 day !
it is surprising that the russian’s haven’t made a move on elon musk yet. from what i’m told as an american is that america is not at war but starlink, which is a private company can do what they want. therefore, elon musk is at war with russia. sounds to me like he would be fair game and so would his satelites.
