Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro on August 18 said that he would deploy 4.5 million militia members in response to “outlandish threats” by the United States.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has been slowly escalating against Venezuela, using the problem of drug trafficking as a pretext.
In February, it designated Venezuelan criminal group Tren de Aragua and a number of Mexican drug cartels as global terrorist organizations.
Furthermore, the U.S. announced earlier this month that it had doubled the reward for the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from to $50 million. Maduro was accused by the Trump administration of being “the world’s biggest drug trafficker” and of working with cartels to smuggle fentanyl-laced cocaine.
The U.S. dispatched in recent days a 4000-strong naval group, including an amphibious group, multiple guided missile destroyers, a nuclear attack submarine and several naval patrol aircraft, to Latin America and the Caribbean on a counter-cartel mission.
“This week, I will activate a special plan with more than 4.5 million militiamen to ensure coverage of the entire national territory — militias that are prepared, activated and armed,” Maduro announced on state television, without mentioning recent U.S. actions.
The Bolivarian Militia of Venezuela, founded by Maduro’s predecessor Hugo Chavez, is reported to contain about five people. Meanwhile, the National Bolivarian Armed Forces of Venezuela, which is heavily armed, has over 100,000 active duty troops.
The Venezuelan President went on to llambasted “the renewal of extravagant, bizarre and outlandish threats” from the U.S.
Maduro also thanked those who expressed their support in the face of what he called “rotten refrain” of threats, and called on his government’s political base to move forward with the formation of peasant and worker militias “in all industries” in the country.
“Rifles and missiles for the peasant force! To defend the territory, sovereignty, and peace of Venezuela,” declared Maduro.
Maduro’s remarks came following a Reuters report revealing that three of the destroyers deployed by the U.S. would take position off the coast of Venezuela.
The U.S. did not recognize Maduro’s past two election victories. In addition, Trump floated the idea of a military intervention in Venezuela during his first term. Thus, the oil-rich country has every right to be extremely cautious about the U.S. naval buildup near its shores.
A U.S. military intervention seems highly-unlikely. However, the naval deployment could enable Trump to pressure Venezuela in new ways.

to hell with uncle sams imperialistic military!
where does venezuela get their electricity from.
where does murica get its drugs from? certainly not venezuela.
so they have been doing military sending and maduro thinks his national warpenis is big enough to brandish at the us. ok. are these missile carriers built in iran, how many do they have. what is their range, can they hit the us from gaspumpistan.
i think maduro is planning on buying some anti-ship missiles from the houthis. the two aircraft carrier groups we sent to yemen sure didn’t last long.
i suppose the venezuelan navy and air force are in a complete state of disrepair from so many years of sanctions. so only the ground forces could really do damage to an us expeditionary force, if it puts boots on the ground. but trump just needs to take out maduro with a precision strike and the whole regime will collapse and the bolivarian militias will receive the marines as liberators. may be china should do the same with taiwan. nice guys finish last.
you’re sorely mistaken if you really believe the bolivarian militias will bend over to drag queen crayon 🖍 eating big bad marines so easily it’d be a guerilla war 100x times worse then vietnam.
and while america is busy invading another tiny country, egypt is massing 40 thousand troops in the sinai while iran is setting up to eradicate the israeli air force. without air cover israel is a sitting duck.
not going to happen in amillion years. why you think they call him abdull elsissy
the zionist genocidal imperialist entity found that it’s sanctions can’t get the job done so now they are getting even more aggressive. long live the bolivarian revolution and venezuela! death to imperialist monsters and their agents! china and russia should help arm venezuela with anti-ship missiles to make the aipac regime think twice before attacking venezuela!
“the bolivarian militia of venezuela, founded by maduro’s predecessor hugo chavez, is reported to contain about five people”
would have been funny if it was true.

will be another fake war on terror/drug traffickers like iraq for oil. china needs to put their foot down and save south america.
i told you so, when they was finish with ukraine, they will jump to new murders, beside the ongoing genocide in palestine. the only final solution are to blow “us” from the surface, but that demands that imported nazis, and the goofy “jew” einstein not have fool everybody about “nuclear weapon” 😂 russia will of course kill venezuelas if its attacked. its the multipolar world.
the us is completely outnumbered gorilla warfare will make it impossible for us corporations to steal the oil . and almost 100% all drugs transported to the us come through mexican / cia cartels
