The Russian military has targeted a forest where Kiev forces deployed a United States-made M142 HIMARS multiple rocket launcher with Geran suicide drones.
The system carried out a launch from the small forest, located near the settlement of Rohivka in the Chernihiv direction, before getting detected. The launch site was quickly then targeted with at least two Geran drones. Footage of the strike posted to social networks on August 20 showed multiple secondary explosions after the strike. Rocket pods were clearly destroyed, although the fate of the launcher remains unclear.
The U.S. has supplied Ukraine with at least 39 HIMARS launchers since the start of the Russian special military operation more than three years ago. Germany pledged last year to purchase three additional launchers from the U.S. for Kiev forces.
These launchers are typically armed with M30/M31 series GMLRS GPS-guided rockets, which have a range of more than 70 kilometers, or MGM-140 ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles with a range between 165 and 300 kilometers depending on the version. Both are guided via a GPS-aided INS.
Russia is currently producing three versions of the Geran, which are alleged to be copies of the Iranian-made Shahed-131, 136 and 238 suicide drones.
The Geran-1 and 2 are both pusher-propelled. The first has a range of 900 kilometers with a warhead weighing 15 kg, while the second has a range of 2,500 kilometers with a warhead weighing 50 kg. Meanwhile, the Geran-3, which is propelled by a turbojet engine, is reported to have a top range of 2,500 kilometers. It can also carry a warhead weighing as much as 90 kg.
All three versions of the Geran are typically guided via the same jamming-resistance GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system.
The forest where the HIMARS was targeted is located some 23 kilometers away from the Russian border, which suggests that lighter Geran-1 drones were used in the strike.
The Russian military has already damaged or destroyed most of the HIMARS launchers delivered to Kiev forces. In addition, the effectiveness of the system declined sharply as a result of a combination of improved Russian air defenses and electronic warfare.

america does not need another missile system . it has repeatedly it can not manage such military products . secondary explosions are welcome . himars are products from the plunder taxpayers are forced to support. but in america healthy food, clean water and stable electrical grids and not important .
