Hundreds of Druze demonstrated in the city of al-Suwayda and other parts of the southern Syrian governorate on August 16 to demand the right to self determination.
Some of the protesters waved Israeli flags to thank Israel for intervening on their side during the battle with the forces of Syria’s Islamist-led interim government and affiliated Bedouin tribes last month.
The battle, which broke out on July 13, claimed the lives of more than 1,600 people, including over 400 Druze civilians who were executed by government troops and Bedouin fighters. The Israeli intervention allowed Druze fighters to maintain control over the city of al-Suwayda along with nearly all of its eastern and southern countryside.
However, government forces managed to hold onto most of the northern and western countryside of the governorate. A ceasefire was brokered by the United States on July 16 and clashes came to an end a few days later. Since then, al-Suwayda has been under a strict siege.
The protesters in al-Suwayda expressed their rejection of the interim government and demanded that those responsible for atrocities against Druze be brought to justice. Some of the protesters called on Israel to intervene to support their demand of self determination.
The very next day, pro-government Bedouin tribes held an extended meeting at a military base near the town of Rakhm in the eastern countryside of the governorate of Daraa, which neighbors al-Suwayda. Hundreds of armed fighters were present.
During the meeting, the tribes affirmed their full support for the interim government and their rejection of any plans aimed at dividing the country.
They also called for confronting what they called “armed groups seeking to implement foreign agendas” in al-Suwayda,” emphasizing that their military actions are directed against these groups only and do not target civilians.
The recent developments indicate that the conflict in al-Suwayda is not over yet. In fact, the real conflict may have just begun.
While there is no clear concession among Druze on the right to self determination, the demand is surely gaining popularity with many even calling for a Druze state in al-Suwayda.
Such a state will be isolated, as the interim government will never accept the results of any referendum. In addition, Jordan will likely reject opening a border crossing with a de-facto state. This could, however, open the door for Israel to establish a corridor in Daraa and neighboring al-Qunitra under the gesture of backing the Druze state. In this scenario, the Druze will get al-Suwayda, while Israel will slowly take over much of what’s left of southern Syria.
Recent reports revealed ongoing talks on a “humanitarian corridor” linking Israel with al-Suwayda, with the involvement of the interim government. This may be just the first step.

treator bastards bomb them alllllll
in 2006 i traveled there to bosra for the roman ruins etc. and met a few youngsters that expressed openly their anti assad and pro israeli stance. which flabbergasted me to say the least.
assad was their safety net. now he’s gone. i don’t know how much saudi money putin pocketed for this.
a kurdish (and druze) or assad government would keep syria together, but hts syria will fall apart like milosevic’s yugoslavia.
the beauty is that you can find ancient minorities new testament samaritans so they date min. 2000 years back. in iraq the jezidis date more than 6000 years back as their religion came before zoroastrianism. assyrians, remnants of the former empire date from 4000 years ago. also druze + alawite probably remnents of older ancient communities. in europe such communities would lhave been exterminated or assimilated and totally forgotten.
forgotten and erased
now this is being planned by a war criminal set up by europe and us and canada.
yazidi women said that new crimes would occur if sanctions on syria were lifted. i hope duncan manages to create enough media propaganda that the british will protect the kurds. ht tp s://w ww.thes un.c o.u k/n e ws/3 5823 559/syr ia-presi dent-jiha di-al-qa eda/
i hope duncan manages to create enough media propaganda that the british will protect the kurds.
that’s right, the international coalition must repent and resolutely support the kurds to take over damascus.
it is precisely because of the bombing and genocide that such results were achieved. i have seen this behavior before with slobodan milošević and, to a lesser extent, with former egyptian president morsi. both died in prison.
why was yugoslavia able to thrive under tito, who imprisoned the stalinists on a goli island, but when milošević came along, it was immediately over? hint: milošević was right-wing, while tito was a communist. the same was true of gorbachev, who, unlike khrushchev (a communist and ukrainian) and brezhnev, who was a jew, was an ordinary right-winger and traitor. i don’t know what el sisi is, but i do know that morsi was a crazy right-winger and the end was logical.
i hope there is a bombing- the israeli bombing of damascus, which is recorded in the bible. the bible says that the israelites will destroy damascus, what do you think?
the war cult does all to remove self determination from humanity. israel will see these people as like palestinians or less.
self-determination would be possible if a referendum were allowed.
israel would win the referendum. no one except crazy alawites and piglet putler would support hts.
this will make you happy.

morsi and milosevic both had us support, milosevic lost it when george bush left the white house. the sdf is talking to the international coalition, and if scotsman and former sdf peshmerga sniper alan duncan does enough propaganda, maybe the world will become a better place. i think a better place would be for the druze and kurds to get a joint government, like el sisi did with erdogan’s friend morsi a long time ago.
do you think the druze & kurd government would resolve the situation?
donald dump not be in the white house forever, and maybe a smarter man will come along and bomb damascus.
morsi and milosevic also organized their own protests. it didn’t help them. both died in prison. this kind of behavior doesn’t work in the long run.
such people always have their supporters who are willing to kill and rape for them. then a republican is replaced by a democrat and then all hell breaks loose on such a bastard.
israel always claims holy land status. un-holy is the reality. heaven grows life, israel destroys it. easy to see
it wasn’t israel that burned tartus and latakia. this is what the hts government is doing, which wants to turn the area into a desert because it is conducting an environmental experiment. desertification, erosion, and landslides will make it impossible to grow wheat and graze sheep tartus and latakia.
even the one with the chinese wuhan virus was just a social experiment that ended in disaster. the alawites themselves signed their own death and the destruction of their coast. the forest is burned because they handed over their weapons to their enemies. desertification, landslides, soil erosion, higher temperatures in summer and lower temperatures in winter, less precipitation and at the same time a greater chance of flooding will be the consequences of forest destruction.
the question is whether there isn’t just another space species in the sky that has better things to do than solve the problems of earthlings.
me and attila often visit gay bars tel aviv where we scrub toilets for shekels
quisling whores waving zio flags to supply a pretext for more joo land thieving.
what do you think they should do? they need establish a civilized state together with the kurds?
yes. something in the style of the russian revolution, when they wiped out the feudal lords, or at least in the style of el sisi.
and what should they do? iran will not defend them even though the druze are also shiites.
another successful balkanization of arab land. as lawrence of arabia warned that they will always be a divided and easily manipulated people as long as they feud amongst themselves. congratulations to israel on another success over a group of petty political classes, ruling over 500 million faithful, yet subordinated, peoples. one for the history books. an exact replay events after the great war.
it seems to me that saudi arabia, qatar, and turkey are more to blame for this. because only a fool would go to the trouble of importing uyghurs from china and chechens from russia into syria and expect syria to remain intact. there are two solutions: one is the return of the baath government, and the other is the establishment of a government led by the communist kurdistan workers’ party and the druze.
the saudis financed kosovo and bosnia to wage such a jihad there that even slobodan praljak and igor bavčar, who had previously transported weapons to al-qaeda in bosnia, began to scream that osama bin laden and sudies were crazy terrorists. praljak said he was not guilty because their wahhabi allies started killing them. that there was no reason at all for the wahhabis to start killing them and that’s why he had to blow up the bridge.
it all started when bashar al-assad allowed female teachers to wear the hijab in schools. now the only option would be if the idf took damascus and banned the hijab and appointed a kurd as leader of syria.
brillant and evil. first you support al quaida to take over then you collect the people who al quaida is now mass killing as allies against the very thing you instated…
as for the drus its their only chance to survive the christians and alevites have no such allie as the drus.
they are mass killed without anyone giving a damn worldwide.
alawites and christians were betrayed by russia. i want israel to defend the druze and also wrest damascus from the criminals and annex it to israel.
money bought putler and that’s why putler now supports hts. i hope that duncan, who fought alongside the kurdish peshmerga against isis, prepares the british to strike at hts and the russians.
but who will defend the alawites and christians because the russians took a bribe from saudi arabia?
mia how many names do you use here?
