Russia’s Bars-Sarmat Center for Special-purpose Unmanned Systems has tested a new engineering charge, dubbed KZ-7, designed to be used as a warhead for suicide drones.
Video footage showing a live test of the KZ-7 was released on August 17. During the test, the charge, which weights 6,5 kg, was installed in a horizontal position 12 meters away from the targets. It was able to penetrate 700 mm of reinforced concrete, and 400 mm of rolled homogeneous armor.
The new charge will mainly serve as a warhead for the Molniya-2. The low-coast, twin-engine, electric drone is reported to have a range of 40 kilometers. It can carry a payload weighing ten kilograms, meaning it could easily support the new charge.
One of the warheads the Molniya-2 is often equipped with is the Soviet-era KZ-6, which weighs just 3 kg. The KZ-7 was likely designed on the basis of this charge.

Aside from being used as a warhead for suicide drones, the KZ-7 will likely be used by Russian engineering troops and special forces.
The Bars-Sarmat Center will reportedly conduct more tests on the charge to further evaluate its performance before declaring it operational.
