The United States is trying to broker a deal for a humanitarian corridor to run between Israel and the governorate of al-Suwayda in southern Syria to deliver aid to the Druze community there, Axios reported on August 13, citing one U.S. official and two Israeli officials.
Last month, Israel intervened to stop an attack by the forces of Syria’s Islamist-led interim government and loyalist Bedouin tribes on the Druze in al-Suwayda. Israel justifies its intervention by its historic ties to its own Druze community. The battle ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
More than 1,600 people were reportedly killed during the battle, including over 400 Druze civilians executed by government forces and Bedouins.
Druze fighters maintained control over al-Suwayda city along with much of its eastern and southern countryside. However, government forces is still holding most of the northern and western countryside of the governorate.
Since the start of the ceasefire, the government kept al-Suwayda under siege, allowing the entry of limited amounts of humanitarian aid every day.
Amid the battle, the Israelis wanted to deliver aid to the Druze in al-Suwayda through Jordan, but the Jordanians refused. Instead, the Israeli military air dropped humanitarian aid, according to AXIOS.
The U.S.-based news website said that an Israeli-Syrian agreement on a humanitarian corridor could “help repair relations and potentially rebuild momentum behind the U.S push for more steps towards the potential future normalization of relations.”
Such a corridor could also help “improve the situation in al-Suwayda, where the situation has remained volatile despite a ceasefire,” the website added.
It also noted that the Syrian government expressed concerns to the U.S. that Druze fighters could use such a corridor to smuggle weapons.
According to AXIOS, U.S. envoy to Syria Tom Barrack is expected to meet in Paris next week with Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani to try to reach an agreement.
Following the fall of the Assad regime last December, Israel captured the buffer zone adjacent to the occupied Golan Heights. The new corridor will further expand Israel’s influence in southern Syria under the gesture of delivering humanitarian aid.
The corridor could in theory grant the Israeli military the freedom of movement in vast parts of the governorates of al-Qunitra and Daraa. Israel earlier this year demanded the complete demilitarization of the region.
This comes at a time when Israel is not hiding its expansionist ambitions. On February 12, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told i24 that he feels he is on a “historic and spiritual mission,” and that he is “very” attached to the vision of a Greater Israel.
While the Syrian government is clearly still betting on U.S. help to broker some sort of an agreement with Israel, it is reported to be exploring other options.
A recent report by Kommersant revealed that the government is interested in restoring Russian military police patrols in southern Syria to curtail Israeli military operations there. This could stop Israel’s project in its tracks. However, Russia will not likely offer any help without a full agreement on its military presence in Syria.

how many times has the usa said they “only need a small piece of land ” that turns out to be 100,s of square miles ? greater israel in the making -i am astounded at the naivety of the syrian government .
soon the whole world will see that jahweh is the god of israel and that he is with israel. from the euphrates to the nile, israel comes out of exile.
deuteronomy -7:16 says it all and after 1000,s of years nothing has changed yahweh the evil “god ” still being worshiped.
that the only who cars driving around letakia would be idf military vehicles and there would be no more residents there. no terrorists, no residents – nothing.
once a month, an israeli helicopter or tank circles around but doesn’t meet a living person.
desert sand, landslides and a few abandoned houses.

these devil worshipping cockroaches will use any pretext for their thieving.
that’s right, but christ the son of yahweh will put an end to the occupation of real zion by muslims and other pagans.
i want god to destroy syria so much that it will no longer be possible to steal anything from there. it would be nice if the arson attacks that hts carries out in the dry part of the year caused such erosion and landslides in the wet part of the year that the gdp per capita of all of syria would be €0. that the landslides would make letakiya such that all the alawites and hts would emigrate to russia.

wildfires burn coastal mountain for second day | accusations of deliberately setting fire

sohr sources have reported that wildfires, which have been burning for more than 48 hours, continue to destroy areas of forests in the coastal mountains between latakia and hama provinces. the situation on the ground remains extremely challenging due to rugged
mountain terrain and narrow roads leading to the fire sites, obstructing the arrival of firefighting vehicles and heavy machinery to the fire center.
residents of surrounding villages expressed their anger over the absence of helicopters in firefighting efforts, as the fire spreads rapidly. these criticisms have been accompanied by accusations that some members of the new authority are deliberately setting fires and showing no concern for extinguishing them,
in order to collect and sell firewood at high prices, especially amid the sharp rise in firewood prices before winter. the massive wildfires, which broke out in the mountains of latakia, have spread to the slopes of beit yashout in jableh countryside, amid their rapid expansion across countryside areas of latakia and hama.the area is witnessing a state of alert and calls for urgent intervention by firefighting teams, amid fears of the fires getting out of control and reaching new areas.

the alawites and russia chose hts and therefore when the rains start, landslides and erosion should begin, because there will be no more roots to protect the territory from erosion and landslides. so that only bare rocks remain, like those left in some of the unforested areas in my homeland. the idiots cut down the forest and then an avalanche swept away entire villages. i hope that traitorous villages are taken by nature so that they will never be able to supply food to hts.
it would be nice if the traitors and also hts fled to traitorous russia, because home in syria there would be nothing but landslides, fires and desert. no food, because the lack of forests in letakia would lead to the expansion of deserts and the peaks in letakia would be beautiful white (the rock). heat, drought, and when it rains, landslides. to make the area unsuitable even for hts and the israelis.
soon, the entire area could be ablaze for seven years with the remnants of the supernaturally destroyed coalition army of russia, iran, and turkey.
the word play “a humanitarian corridor” every lie the talmudic zio bots issue is total hypocrisy . gaza humanitarian ? is another shining example . but most israelis have traded the ability of free thinking for mass cult indoctrination . a terrible transition
idf must defend sdf now !
the kikes must f… off back to khazaria now.
sdf is an israeli ally and a reason to occupy more of syria.
so the greater israel project isn’t a conspiracy theory anymore?
the israelis asked, but jordan refused??? right, pinocchio, sure, i believe you
i would be happy, if the goal was a bombed-out country or a space emptied by a virus. this terrorist country syria must be wiped off the face of the earth. i want the day to come when china in a laboratory or israel in their laboratory produces something that wipes out all of terrorist syria, so that there will be an empty place.
dismembering syria, or better yet, depopulating the entire criminal population with atomic bombs or landslides, earthquakes, and viruses.

so that everything would be empty and there would be nothing left, not even gdp. to make it so terrible that nothing would grow in the fields. absolutely nothing. no food production, just hungry locusts. no trade, just a few bandits. and in the end, devastation worse than gaza. that murderous psychopaths would have to start eating human corpses because there would be no other left.
